If I could get in on the good thoughts/prayers train as well

So it looks like Houston is in the pretty direct path of Ike. And I'm supposed to be going to the hospital this morning for an "induction lite" due to worsening pre-e and PIH.

I'm considering asking them to do a full fledged induction this morning, just so she'll be here on the outside before this thing hits (and we'll be home by then too.)

I just can't decide if it's better to try to force her to come before she's ready or to risk going into labor in the middle of a hurricane and needing to make the hospital trip in such a storm or have a UC because we don't want to leave the house.

It's also entirely possible that we may not do anything today and just wait until Monday - but that still leaves the possibility I could go into labor on my own over the weekend - then we'd have to deal with having a newborn and possibly no power.

Ya'll know pg emotions and stress and clearly, all of this isn't helping me physically (I don't even want to think how high my BP is) and so I don't even know how safe it is for me to stay pg longer.

So if you could send me clarity vibes today so the husband and I (along with the doctor) could make the best possible choice in our position, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I normally would say no induction, but given your health issues, and the storm, I would get the induction. Good luck mama!

Praying!!!

Gosh, this all sounds so familiar. I didn't want to think of the possibility of going into labor when we were out of power and/or getting 20+ inches of rain from Gustav, either.

It will work out, no matter how it ends up. Talk to the doc about your concerns, both medical and logistical.

Good luck, Kati. I'm sure it will all work out, but be no fun in the meantime. * Jaime

Prayers your way.

for what it's worth - I went to the hospital in the midst of an ice storm with my daughter - we lived on a hill and after a doc appt and them telling me labor was "imminent" we got concerned about the roads re-freezing and not getting out.

They used the cervadil - my cervix dilated almost immediately (I had been a 2-3 before that) and then broke my water. I went right into labor - no pitocin. So while it was technically an induction, I felt like my body really did most of it on it's own.

so a friend of mine sent me this link about how to find your Bishop's score yesterday... http://www.amazingpregnancy.com/preg...icles/173.html it's for evaluating the risk of induction i think...how likely are you to need a cesarean or how likely are you to have a successful vaginal delivery if induced? based on your station, dilation, effacement, position and consistency

might give you a little more information...

other than that ::

Lovely, just what you need right now ~ a hurricane barreling at you! Great for stress levels. Anyway, thinking of you!

praying for you that the right answer for you, hubby, and baby comes to light as soon as possible so that your mind can be at peace and you can enjoy these last few days before baby comes!

Well, sheesh, I don't know what to say to you! All I know is i'm facing an induction myself. And as much as I want her out... I too feel horrible trying to force her out before she's ready. Then again I also worry some about my health with the high BP... so I don't really want to put myself in danger. I guess it's a really hard decision to make. I'll send some prayers your way.

I sure hope everything works out for you, Kati! I'm wishing you all the best!
You bring up a good point about driving in a big storm. I'd be worried about the stress factor of getting to the hospital on both you and your hubby if you had to leave while there's a hurricane approaching. Is there anyway you can check in early? I don't know much about hospital protocols so I don't know if they'll let you do that or not. I realize it isn't the same as checking into a hotel but considering the circumstances, maybe they'd make an exception.
I wish you a safe and happy birth and look forward to your happy update!

That's a good suggestion - what about finding a hotel near the hospital. Check in, get room service, soak in a huge bathtub (or find a hotel with a pol to relax in) and be close. Would that be an option?

It's a good idea - but not necessary as we're about ten minutes from the hospital. We'd have as much trouble getting from the hotel as we would our house.

Except for the room service and pool I don't have available here at home

Plus, we have two pups and I'd not leave them to go pamper myself in a hotel - they're still my babies!

And I just don't think she's going to come now (especially since we didn't do anything at the hospital except monitor us both) and if she does come during the hurricane, then it's clear that was meant to be!

: I'm trusting that things unfold as they need to. How was your blood pressure today? Has it risen again?
