September Eat to Live

Thread Starter
I didn't see a thread for September, and have some questions. Hope its okay a newbie started!

I am doing this for weight loss, as well as health reasons. Heart disease runs rampant on my mothers side, and I want to do as much as I can to decrease my chances of following suit.

I'm nursing my almost 17 month old. She nurses probably twice a day, and twice at night. She eats other foods really well. I'm concerned about losing too much weight while nursing. I know the weight can come off pretty quickly doing this, and although that would be great, I am not comfortable with it at this point. Is there a link floating around to the moderated diet plan?

I need to lose about 30/35 pounds to be where I want to be. Anyone have a link to the height/weight chart from Dr. Fuhrman? I know he suggests really low weights, and would like to see the difference between our ideals.

Thanks, mommas! :

I think he goes by 96 pounds for the first five feet, and four pounds for every inch more. I haven't poked in for a while, but the ETL threads use to be pretty active... I hope people haven't given up. It has worked really well for me.

Hi! I have an almost 17 month old too (he'll be 17 months on Saturday) and he's still nursing and I want/need to lose weight.

I just have a ravenous appetite and absolutely no willpower. None. It's awful and I've sort of turned into a binge eater (not as in binging/purging...just binging). I think it's because when he was younger, it seemed like I would go way too long without eating, then I would eat tons at once, not knowing when I would eat again because I was busy. As things have gotten easier, I've stayed in the habit of eating large amounts of food. I notice I eat even when I'm not hungry. Work is the worst. I sit at a desk with four other people and a chip/candy basket is literally at arm's reach. We're in a "pod" so I can't even move it away because everyone else likes it too. I just need to fix myself so I can turn it down!

I'm thinking that maybe I need to go as strict as E2L. I don't do that well in moderation, I'm a very all or nothing type of person. So I can either never go to Starbucks and be fine with it, or decide once to get a frappuccino and before you know it, I'm drinking three a week. Whoa, total confession time, I guess!

Does everyone own the book? Do I need the book or is there enough info somewhere else?

kristi,
if you look back through some posts this summer there are links to other resources. i don't think you really need the book to follow it.

no October thread yet?

we are getting ready to dive in. i'm super excited that my dh has agreed and is FINALLY on board with significantly cutting back on eating meat. we're trying to get any temptation foods out of the house before we start and i've been working on some meal planning in hopes that will keep us going w/o slipping and snacking on something not so good

Is anyone out there still doing this?

I'm ready to get back on the E2L wagon for real. I was a part of the original thread (three years ago?) and even though I didn't follow it strictly I was able to lose 15 pounds of pg weight I hadn't been able to get rid of previously. Recently, my weight has drifted back up (actually, I never got as low as I wanted, but I was comfortable enough where I was). I really need to get serious - especially over the next several weeks, since I'm going to a big family wedding right before Thanksgiving and would like to feel good in whatever I wear.

So I'd like to check in here for some support and accountability, but I'm not sure if anyone else is around. I might just check in even if no one else is! At least if I put it in writing maybe I can keep myself accountable!

Me I'm re-reading this book for about the 15th time. I am a sugar addict/carb addict with severe food allergies, and no willpower. I binge, fail repeat. The more I try to structure or control my eating the more crap I eat. It's this subconscious sabatoge.

Anyway maybe start a new October thread?

Post what we'll be eating, get some ideas. And perhaps clarify the guidelines/and ideals Dr. Fuhrman believes it? I don't believe in doing anything halfway, and he recommends full commitment for 6 weeks before you decide to start cheating or give up.

Anyone?

*P.S. I did his plan full on about 2.5 years ago and lost 20 lbs. According to his guidelines I still have about 12 lbs to go, and I'd agree with that. I have excess fat and flab (not much) but it's enough to make me feel just icky about myself because it's froopy fat, the deflated inner tube etc.... I'd LOVE to maintain a nice healthy fit form. I'm not hung up on numbers, I just know I'm not healthy right now regardless of my # weight.

Yes! Let's start an October thread! My dh and I are starting on Nov 1. I've been spending this month researching recipes and getting our cupboards prepared to take the plunge. I want to make sure that I've got everything outta here that might be tempting at a moment's notice
