Portable washer/dryers worth it?

I am considering purchasing a set of a portable washer and portable dryer. Do any of you have one of these? Do you know anyone who does? Are they worth it to you?

Where I live it costs $2.00 to wash/dry one load in the laundry room, and I am sick and tired of public laundry room/laundry mats where our whole load of clothes is ruined from the chemical (bleach, etc) leftovers from the person before me.

What are your thoughts?

I cannot express how much I LOVE our portable washer and dryer!!!!!!! It is so much more convenient and saves us money too. I do look forward to having a frontloader and big dryer someday with hookups, but we are just fine for now. We have a Kenmore washer with an agitator, just a smaller model top loader. I don't know anything about the pulsator models. It is so much more convenient for cd'ing!

Thumbs up. I loved my portable washer, it was really worth it. I did buy it used, and only line dried, though. It had an adapter that hooked to the kitchen faucet. It did a great job of getting the clothes clean.

I've just moved into a house where my housemate has a washer/dryer combo, and she says that the (evaporative) dryer part doesn't really dry all the way. During summer she doesn't bother, just line dries, and during the winter she finishes drying them by hanging them. She's happy with it.

I'm worried that it might be a little on the small side, but we'll see. I'll take it over the laundromat any day, but I might go to the laundromat if I get backed up. Heck, that's what I did when I had a full-sized washer and dryer in my last place. Sort of depends what they're like here. In NYC there was a laundromat every other block, here, not so much.
