What can you tell me IKEA Wood stains?

I was just at IKEA last weekend with my MIL. I saw that they have a line of wood stains that were insanely cheap. The label claims that they are solvent-free and vegetable-based. I'm a little skeptical, given that they cost less than $5 per can. Does anyone know anything about them? How safe are they?

We used the beeswax product from Ikea for some wood planks for my DS. It has quite a smell, not a pleasant beeswax smell. It goes on white and dries clear to show the natural wood grain well. I made the mistake of putting on multiple layers of it thought. It started to peel waxy stuff after it dried. I then sanded it down a bit after it dried and then I left the planks outside for play for a few months (3) because the smell was just too much for inside.

They are now used daily and look very nice. No smell. Hope that helps.

I don't know if what they claim is true or not.I hope someone else does.But I have used them(pre-child).The stains stink until they dry.

I stained the wardrobe this weekend. DH helped me carry it outside. We left it out there for most of the day, but since it was raining so heavy, we brought it in before dark. It turned out to be a pretty good oil-based stain. It did smell, but a good sort of smell - not the chemical smell of acrylic stain (I used to mix paints for a living). It did a nice job and I love the finish.
