I am starting home-school next week!

Please let me know of the best books and resources that you and your children enjoy. My daughters are 4 (5 in December) and 6 (7 next month). Dara is already advanced in reading and I know that home-school will definitely benefit her to become even more advanced. Zoe has never been "schooled" in any way, shape, or form but she is super smart!

I plan on teaching my kids lots of things that the public schools did/would not at other ages, such as-
Biology
Herbology
Chemistry
Classic literature
Theater
etc

I'm even going to teach my 13 month old son sign language!!!! :

.... and....
A few days a week will be "un-schooling"-type days. Dara is excited about that.

I also plan on taking them on lots of "field trips" to the zoos & museums, etc.

I am totally looking forward to this, as the only reason Dara was ever public-schooled was due to my husband's nagging that they won't get "proper socialization" in home school, which I know is untrue, for I can find groups in my area (Indianapolis, IN) of other home-schooling families and everything will turn out great!

Thanks to everyone who's supported me on this decision and any resurces, books, activities you like to do, etc Please DO share! I'm excited... and SO ARE THE KIDS!!!!!!!!

I agree TOTALLY. I think these things are super important for the kids to know. I think that it should be started at a young age.

You sound like you have a great plan and are going to have a great time with your kids.

we will be useing Alpha and Omega curr as our foundation and supplemetning a lot.

one thing i really like already is The Critial Thinking Company -- they have some stuff that is interactive, looks fun, and really builds a foundation -- we will be useing a number of their products.
