Replacing fuzzi bunz elastic

I know this topic has come up before but I could only find a post from last year. So I hope you don't mind if I bring it up again...

I'm replacing the leg elastic in our Fuzzi Bunz for our second child. I've done two already... picked apart the leg openings, took the elastic out etc. I brought the elastic to the store with me and matched it. I bough 3/8" braided elastic, Stretchrite brand.

I sewed it in while stretching it etc. I think I cut it about 1" smaller than what I wanted the finished size to be. It turned out great until I washed it. Then the elastic stretched out again so it looks like I did nothing.

I washed it on hot, same as I've been washing the original diapers for the past 2 years. Does anybody know what happened and why? Do I need a different brand of elastic or something?

Thanks for the help.

I've seen a tutorial from another message board where you don't even have to remove the old elastic. You just make a tiny hole in the fleece and run though the new elastic & hand stitch the ends in place. Haven't tried it myself, but makes sense and sounds much easier than taking the diaper apart, etc. GL - Jana

Don't sew it down all along it's length-that ruins it's stretchiness. You want to just tack it down at each end. It works much better that way!
