info for partner!

Hi there, after my first I had very severe ppd that lasted over a year. My 2nd is over a year old now, and my partner is actually carrying around a lot of anger and resentment toward me because of the ppd. Not because of how I acted toward him, but because I was so useless and he feels that I was just being lazy and purposefully not being involved in life. He was very very unsupportive, in any way and has remained completely disconnected and uninvolved. Where can I find some information to explain to him that I wasn't like that on purpose? What actually happens.. how the brain doesn't function?

Hi,

Postpartum for Dummies and Beyond the Blues both have sections for partners to read, and both books are excellent.

Maybe you should bring him to speak with your doctor. If you would comfortable, I'm sure your psychiatrist would be able to explain that ppd is an illness.

I just read in a book that many are in denial that ppd is an actual illness and a way of creating awareness is to compare symptoms to an actual common illness, like bronchitis. If you had a bronchitis and had a cough, you would be in denial if you were wondering were the cough was coming from. Well, ppd is illness with actual symptoms, like ruminating & intrusive thoughts, etc. Does that make any sense?
