Making Cables Bigger

This has been bugging me for a long time. It's one of those things I randomly think about any ole time, then forget and think more later. Can you make a cable bigger? I look at a cable pattern and I want it twice as wide, but how do I do it? Do I just double everything? That doesn't seem like it would work though.

You have to be careful, because it can affect the width, but yes, you can make them bigger. Just remember that the larger the cable, the more the "pull".

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that. That's true.

I have never done a regular rope cable larger than 4/4. I've done braids, though that were 3/3/3, which is 9 stitches, and I found to be quite large enough.

The pattern I am thinking of is that tree of life cable pattern. I want to make it bigger somehow. Like instead of repeating the trees over and over, just making one enormous pattern. I guess I could enlarge the trees but leave the cable portion where the branches are twined the same size?

Swatch, swatch, swatch, swatch, swatch. And have fun doing it, and post pictures when you're done.

That pattern always bugs me- it's all about the superficial stuff that people can see, and minimises the roots of the tree. I want to rewrite it. :
