I have a 20x40 canvas of a picture of my family in black and white on the beach... very soothing. I also have three tin stars ... a bigger one and two small ones. simple

Right now I have a few family photos and candles. Its a chunky stone fireplace, so I cant hang anything above it. In the past I have put mirrors on it. I like to mix it up often and do seasonal things, like pumpkins and candles for fall.

My idea is to hang a seasonal wreath over it, changing it with each season. Then maybe a candle or two on the mantle.

Another idea would be a mirror to reflect more light into the space. You could pair it with some mini topiaries or other things special to you.
I was thinking a wreath too, and went shopping but couldn't find any I liked. I'd especially like that for the fall, and for Christmas.

Williams sonoma has some nice ones, but pricey. I really like the harvest wreath, but I guess it will only be good for one season? Is that right?

I think you're right. Those are beautiful. I got a non-fresh one today, and put it over my fireplace. I need to play around with it some more. I think I'm giving myself a decorating complex.

Woops, sorry! My DS gets mistaken for a girl sometimes, too, lol. His hair isn't as long as your DS, but it's pretty shaggy.

Here's mine... the Indian corn is only there this time of year.

I like the twigs and the corn. I can't tell what is in the frame?

right now, we are living in a rental, so the piano serves as the "mantle" (but without the ginger pots, as they are large and no room). But when we return to our home in _ (hopefully soon), I'll set up the same arrangement as before we moved to the temp rental:

large supposedly 19thC mirror with carved frame above it; fills most of wall except for a few inches around.
on mantle, cream colored porcelain ginger pots on each end. pair of tall crystal candlestick holders to the left of left ginger pot at very end.
In the middle, 3 or 4 crystal vases, one of which was a gift. The others I got from a factory when we lived in Europe. I like that the vases have some color in the glass and how sunlight reflects off of them. Like to keep the vases filled, as they reflect nicely in the mirror.

It's a mirror. That's why it photographed weird.
