sigh.

But really I need a new stove. Anyone know where I can get one with a bit of personality but not the hefty price tag?

Craigslist/Freecycle/Local trade mags. That stove is cuuuuuute. My DH is equally as in love with the stove we got for free off Craigslist. It had been owned by one little old lady since the 50s and she kept good care of it. I was on another website that had stoves painted all cute like the one you fell in love with, we thought about getting it done by some auto guy in a complex where DH works, but it would have been $$$$.

These photos of our free Estate stove aren't ideal, but you get the picture. GL!

You got a very good deal on that stove. DH's mom has one in her house, which was his Grandmother's house. It is wonderful.

I've looked for stoves like that around here and on e-bay. There was one on e-bay that was listed for $7,000.

I wish they would make regular stoves a little more attractive. I wanted color and some style. Choices are so limited and they all cost so much money. I looked into the old stoves too. So attractive and yet anything in good condition costs $$$.

I complained to my mom once about how boring and ugly appliances were and she blames it on the lack of art in schools

There is actually a property for sale down the road from us that has an old stove in it. Original and in great shape. If I was shopping for a new stove I would seriously consider asking the owners if I could buy it. Owners live elsewhere and the property will be bulldozed by anyone buying it.

I never did find a cute range in my price range. If you want to find out more appliances to drool over, go check out the appliances forum at www.gardenweb.com I really liked the Bertazoni (sp?) ranges, but there was no way I was spending that kind of money. . . .

(I ended up with a boring, but perfectly functional GE range with two ovens and a center oval burner.)

Is there someone who refurbishes old stoves in your area? We have a guy who does this out of his garage, and that might be an option for you.

I had one of those cool-looking old stoves in an apt once. It was kinda scary though. It had pilot lights under the cooktop with a little hole for air, and a breeze thru the apt from the door as I left would sometimes blow out the pilots and I would return to an apt full of gas smell

Also whenever I needed to use the oven I had to first turn on the gas to it and then light it myself with a match in a holder....and it would go WHOOSH !!!!!

I had one summer internship in an oil refinery under my belt then and didn't scare easily...but that stove scared me ! It had no safety features at all. It looked cool and cooked great, but I would not want one that old and with no safety features again.
