I need help picking out songs for baby slideshow

It's actually for a toddler. My neice is going to be 2 in November and I'm making her a slideshow of her 2nd year of life. I did the same thing for her 1st birthday and want to continue. The first year they were sappy songs. My sister and her husband loved it and thank me all the time for it, still. But I want this year's slideshow to be more upbeat. My neice is the light of the family and she brings a smile to everyone's face. She's a jokester. She loves to sing and dance and a lot of the pictures I'm going to use are of her being silly, so I want the songs to be kinda upbeat. I was thinking about the song, '5 Years Time' by Noah and the Whale (I would have to edit out some of the verses about drinking). I was also thinking about 'Smile, Smile Smile' by Dan Zanes. They're both upbeat and I need other songs to go with them. Any ideas? They don't have to be kids songs. Please help!

Yes! That would be a perfect ending song! I totally forgot about that song! I saw the play 3 times and have all those songs memorized. They'll love it.

Thank you!

maybe this is too obvious - but what about "you are the sunshine of my life", by Stevie Wonder?

Also this song is great - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19mDVt6q6Vg

I also like "birdhouse in your soul" for a happy song.

you must include some bob marley

is there a song with her name in it?

obladi oblada is a fun song, too.

A year or so ago, I made a CD of happy music for each of my kids. When we hear one of the songs on the radio, their little faces light up and they say "that's MY music!" The CDs are in the car right now, so I don't have the entire playlist, but here are the songs that spring to mind.

"In My Life" The Beatles
"Make Me Smile" Chicago
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" Simon and Garfunkel
"You've Made Me So Very Happy" Blood, Sweat, and Tears
"I'll Stand By You" Girls Aloud
"True Colors" Cyndi Lauper (or Phil Collins, if you prefer)
"Sweet Child of Mine" Guns and Roses (or Sheryl Crow, if you prefer)
"You've Got a Friend in Me" Toy Story Soundtrack
"Daughters" John Mayer
"Do you Believe in Magic" ? (Some Oldies Group)
"Happy Together" The Turtles?
"God Only Knows" Beach Boys
"Love Sweet Love" ? (there are a bunch of different versions; I don't remember who sings the one I chose.... some jazzy guy...could it be Elvis Costello?)
"When You're Smiling" Dean Martin, I think
"The Way You Look Tonight" Frank Sinatra

"In My Arms" by Plumb!!!! It's the perfect song for any photo montage. Here is the link to the MySpace page. Click on "In My Arms", the second song on the list, to hear the song.

ETA~Ok, I missed the upbeat songs request so you might want to skip this one, but keep it in mind for future sappy years!

"Life is a Journey" is very sweet too.

P.S. What a great idea, by the way. I'll look into it for Christmas presents!

Bump - hoping more people have suggestions to offer. I love these!

Anybody have anything that's perfect for boys? Anything from a sappy mother-son tear-jerker to a celebration of rough and tumble little boys... I would love to make a montage for my boys.

Danny;'s song by kenny loggins and st. judy's comet by paul simon

Oo, little sleepy boy
Do you know what time it is?
Well the hour of your bedtime's long been past
And though I know you're fighting it
I can tell when you rub your eyes
You're fading fast, oh fading fast

Won't you run come see St. Judy's Comet
Roll across the skies
And leave a spray of diamonds in its wake
I long to see St. Judy's Comet
Sparkle in your eyes when you awake
Oh, when you wake, wake

Little boy
Won't you lay your body down
Little boy
Won't you close your weary eyes
Ain't nothing flashing but the fireflies

Well I sang it once and I sang it twice
I'm going to sing it three times more
I'm going to stay 'til your resistance
Is overcome
'Cause if I can't sing my boy to sleep
Well it makes your famous daddy look so dumb
look so dumb

Won't you run come see St. Judy's Comet
Roll across the skies
And leave a spray of diamonds in its wake
I long to see St. Judy's Comet
Sparkle in your eyes when you awake
Oh, when you wake, wake

Little boy, little boy
Won't you lay your body down
Little boy, little boy
Won't you close your weary eyes
Ain't nothing flashing but the fireflies

Oo, little sleepy boy
Do you know what time it is?
Well the hour of your bedtime's long been past
And though I know you're fighting it
I can tell when you rub your eyes
You're fading fast, oh fading fas

This is not an upbeat song, but i have to agree with this choice..!! My uncle made a beautiful movie for me when my DD turned 5 and he used this song, he also used "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" which is also nice even though her name is not Lucy.

I don't know what age boys you're talking about, but I love Nayib's Song by Gloria Estefan.

Lately my son I've been confused
Don't know what to tell you 'cause it's all such bad news
Lately my son I've been discouraged
I look around and it fills me with worry
What kind of world can I offer you
Where will it all lead, do we have the sense to make it through?
I've tried to figure it out, to have an answer I can tell you
But all I can see, all I can see

(chorus)

Is I am here for you, and you are here for me
It's an ongoing process
I will take care of you and you will take care of me
If were gona make some progress

(verse 2)

Lately my son I feel ashamed
For many things that have happened and are happening again
Really my son I thought we'd learned
From what I see around me it's a very tough world
But all I can hope is that you take it as a challenge
To create somthing new that will take you far,
I know that you can manage
To scatter some hope, 'cause it's not to late to repair the damage
The only way it can be, is so easy to see

Repeat chorus

(bridge)

You gotta believe, never be afraid to dream
But follow it through, 'cause it won't get done unless it comes from you
Gotta make it all work, for the ones that are coming after you
Though hard it may seem, gotta believe

Repeat chorus

I also love The House at Pooh Corner by Kenny Loggins, and his version of The Rainbow Connection.

When my son finished 5th grade, they did a slideshow of the kids' kindergarten photos to "I Hope You Dance." :

Another one that could work for either a boy or a girl is "Promises" by Basia. It's a wonderfully upbeat song. These lyrics are my favorite part:

Here and now is all that it's about
Let's use it or we'll lose it

Go and ask anybody
They will all say the same---everyone
Love is contagious
We are part of a chain

hmm, for the boys, I like the Dixie Chicks' Godspeed(Sweet Dreams) http://www.last.fm/music/Dixie+Chick...+(Sweet+Dreams)

Lyrics:
Dragon tales and the "water is wide"
Pirate's sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

The rocket racer's all tuckered out
Superman's in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, will find the mouse
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

God bless mommy and match box cars
God bless dad and thanks for the stars
God hears "Amen," wherever we are
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Godspeed
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

I also like Kenny Rogers' "I Am the Greatest"

Little Boy, in a baseball hat
Stands in the field with his ball and bat
Says I am the greatest player of them all
Puts his bat on his shoulder and he tosses up his ball

And the ball goes up and the ball comes down
Swings his bat all the way around
The world's so still you can hear the sound
The baseball falls to the ground

Now the little boy doesn't say a word
Picks up his ball, he is undeterred
Says I am the greatest there has ever been
And he grits his teeth and he tries it again

And the ball goes up and the ball comes down
Swings his bat all the way around
The world's so still you can hear the sound
The baseball falls to the ground

He makes no excuses, He shows no fears
He just closes his eyes and listens to the cheers

Little boy, he adjusts his hat
Picks up his ball, stares at his bat
Says I am the greatest the game is on the line
And he gives his all one last time

And the ball goes up like the moon so bright
Swings his bat with all his might
And the world's so still as still can be
And the baseball falls, and that's strike three

Now it's supper time and his mama calls
Little boy starts home with his bat and ball
Says I am the greatest that is a fact
But even I didn't know I could pitch like that

Also, for a little girl, I really like Tom Petty's Wildflowers
