Oh, thanks for this! I was thinking about getting braces, but I would need two, one for each hand. Could I just wear them while sleeping, you think? Would it really make a difference for during the day?

Sending feel better vibes to you, too! We all need them these days!

MommaFox, Have you considered using EPO to help soften the cervix? I think the majority of us are far enough along to start using those types of supplements. It can be taken orally or inserted vaginally. No reason to give up just yet! It's still early and a lot can happen in labor! Maybe your cervix just wants to wait for the real thing. Hang in there and whine to us when you need to so we can remind you of why you shouldn't schedule that C!

AAM: DH is out of town until tomorrow night so he wasn't going to be able to go to our Bradley class tonight. But, I just got an email from our insructor and her son has the stomach flu so class is cancelled! I definitely don't want to be sick right now....YUCK.

This is my first week of not teaching any classes so hopefully I can find the motivation to workout on my own. I cleaned my basement really well yesterday (I have an extensive fitness area set up down there) in hopes that it would make me more likely to go down there. :

I'm hoping to get some more cleaning done today, working toward the whole house being super clean and then just keep everything up daily from there. Vaccuming is how I'm keeping up today.

my dad uses braces for his hands for sleeping and it makes a huge difference in his pain during they day(he has neurapathy) It may work, and it so wouldn't hurt to try. My only concern would be getting up to pee and wiping with two braces on....lol

The other thing you could do would be to alternate wear one on your left for the morning and then one on your right for the afternoons or something. Anyone I have known with cts has felt a huge relief by wearing braces.

AAM well i'm finally getting over my cold, which is making breathing sooo much easier!! I am 35 weeks today so 2 more weeks till i'm good for a home birth and i'm sure 5-6 more weeks before little one actually arrives...lol.

I am having my mother blessing on Sunday so I very excited about that.

We got our carseats installed in the back of our civic....can you believe we managed to get 3 across including the infant base which I didn't think we would be able to do...I was sure we would have to use the seat without the base. It took my friend|(who is a certified carseat tech) and I well over an hour to get them in. We wanted to make sure they all fit tightly, independently of one another which was tough because they are such a tight fit...but we did it. Each seat has less then a 1/4 inch of movement on it's own!!!! We have two radians forward facing outbound and the graco safeseat in the center rear facing.

My oldest started pre k last week and it has been an interesting experience getting him back and forth everyday for the 2.5 hours he goes...but so far it's going well and it's giving me some alone time with ds#2 before the baby arrives. He is doing really well in school but he is thouroughly exhausted aftewards and as a very spirited and high needs kid Thursday and Friday were tough on me and him...hopefully as he gets use to it though it will get easier. Not to mention dh will be home from the time the baby comes till January so that will help out.

Not much else happening these days with me.

I finally uploaded a pic of the personalized blanket we got at our baby shower over a week ago. It was part of the gift from DH's employees. I wanted to share it with you all. It's SOO cute!

35 weeks and wishing it was October. Baby is low and getting lower every day. Pubic bone aches when I walk, I can barely get up from sitting, i"m just ready to be DONE! I'm getting head butts in the cervix and bladder as well..which just sucks! That's my complaint for the week!
Oh Yvonne...I commiserate! This is my symptoms to a tee right now and I am 35 weeks today also.

A big hug to everyone else getting poor sleep (I feel rough right now after just 3 or so hours of it and hope I can go back to catch some more zzz's here in a while) or having contrax or pain.

Love that blanket Tara! So sweet.

Myrmom: Wow, 3 car seats. Color me impressed for you getting them in there and fixed correctly in not-such a big car!

Here is our weekend in a nutshell:
We have been seriously lagging on baby prepping unlike most of you here so we finally did a bunch of things in a few days.
Saturday, we went to BRU and used the completion coupon coupled with current in-store sale to get our amazing Dutailier glider.
We got the XL Grande style which is the bigger (and most pricey one *gulp*) but we tested a bunch and it was the only one we both loved to sit in and loved the look of. Cushions are a pale beigey-gold with a corduroy/velveteen feel and wood is dark oak.
Ottoman is on order and will be here in 7-14 days.
We also got Born Free bottle sets, layette outfits, hooded froggy towels, a Baby Genius Neptune Ocean Floor Exerciser, a Fisher Price Soothing Sounds Glider and our Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper Crib is finally on order.
Our Lovey Bums wool covers came in the mail.
Then yesterday, we got up, cleaned, set up stuff then set off for my favorite local huge thrift place hoping to score a good dresser we could put Baby's stuff in and attach changing pad to top to making it a dresser/changer.
We ended up finding the cutest one ever - just the perfect size and height made of nice pine wood with 4 drawers on the left and a clothes hanging chiffarobe- sp?- on the right. It was dusty, had funky paint job and was missing a handle so we slapped on a fresh coat of creamy ivory after cleaning it and then some black lacquer to the drawer fronts and new hardware/pulls for the drawers and closet part.
It cost us $40 but now looks designer-worthy, so much cuter IMO than anything they had at BRU for $300 or so.
Here is a very similar one from Target but ours is nicer in shape and has one more drawer than this one plus I like our paint job and handles much better...
Target one
We also scored with a rocking chair for the bedroom (glider will go in the living room). It was natural dark wood, vintage but in great shape with amazing intricate carvings in the top back part. We threw out the cushion it came with, cleaned it and then painted it to a shiny black lacquer finish and got a great cushy camel colored cushion for it at Target.
It looks like something that would retail for a lot here in a pricey baby boutique or furniture place but we got it for $25.
Then, we got a great new (to us) sofa. Its nice and long but low with good lumbar support, looks like its from the 30's/40's, rust and blue floral fabric in great almost unused condition. This ran us only $55 ( lady working there took off $20 just b/c I was pregnant- gotta love that- and they were having a sofa sale of 25% off everything and it was cheap to begin with).
I will have to take pix in the next day or so b/c I couldn't believe how great things came out.
Now that we have baby's dresser, I will be able to wash all his clothes this week and put them away finally. We only have to order his stroller online and get a sling/carrier, a few more diaper covers and we are ready for him to come on out. :

I wanted to share for those of you also due before Halloween with newborns who can't really wear a costume yet, at Target right now in the clearance area right when you walk in the door, I got two teeny graphic Halloween tees for size 0-3 and a pair of Halloween 0-3 socks- each for only $1.
I haven't been able to find anything this small for Halloween at other places (I mean, we obviously won't be going anywhere but I will do a photo session of course since Halloween is my favorite time of the year) and the cotton tops are cute. One is orange with green piping and is a Great Pumpkin tee with jack o lantern face on front. The other is white and says "I want my Mummy!" with a little mummy on it.
Socks are striped orange and black.
All three for $3. Wowza.

We also watched our copy of Harvey Karp's dvd "The Happiest Baby on the Black" and loved it. Its only 28 minutes long but teaches you about how to perfectly swaddle- why the dvd was recommended over the book to me- what the calming reflex is that all babies have and how to activate it. I was impressed with his techniques as demoed on squalling teeny bebes so clearly this works.
I suggest if you can (especially other first time mamas) to give it a look. I know it made us feel like we learned something. My DH was all excited about doing the swaddle and the holds he teaches after watching it.

Hope everyone is going to have a great Monday and rest of week!
I am getting giddy just thinking about how close we all are now...

Holy moly have you been productive OrchideZ!

my my my OrchideZ you made up for lost time didn't you...lol
post #48 of 178
OrchideZ - I have loveybums for my DS and I really like them. I'm sure you'll be happy with those. I'm so jealous of all your finds. Our town is so small we never get good stuff like that in our thrift stores but when ever I've been down in the Laguna area I've always found some cool stuff...never enough room to take furniture home but I've gotten some awesome wooden toys for dirt cheap.

I'm just looking over my list of homebirth supplies that I need so I can get a box and put them in there. The only thing I need to buy is a bottle of oil. Otherwise we already have everything. I need to pull out the co-sleeper and wash the sheet also.

I have a MW appt. later today but it's just the regular 'ol stuff...nothing special happening except that I'm cluing her in on certain things that I want/don't want during the birth.

I was having pain mostly during the day so I only wore the brace during the day. Then it progressed to middle of the night aching. Now I wear the brace all the time. I take it off for a few hours during the evening because it tends to get a little "itchy" in there. If I dont wear it...for say 1/2 a day...the pain comes back.

Duh, pregnancy brain didn't allow me to really think this whole brace thing through! I just got back from walmart where I picked one up. My right hand is significantly worse than my left, and I'm right handed, so I'm going to wear it during the day on my left and at night on my right. I can already feel a difference in my left hand. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Tara, that blanket is so cute!

Orchidez - you got your completion coupon already? I'm jealous! But wow, you sure got a ton accomplished! Way to go, mama! (PS. I got some of those cute things from Target myself! They ARE so adorable!)

I also got 2 cute tops from Walmart (I never even LOOKED there for maternity clothes)! One has Eeyore towards the bottom and it says, "I'm So Over It." I thought it was adorable and the cut is flattering...and it was only $10! I also bought my first nursing bra. Mad comfy and it was only $8.99 as well. Gotta love Walmart.
Wow! I don't know where to start...
Changed: Hope you'll share your maternity pics here soon. I keep thinking I should have some made since this will probably be my only pregnancy and DH usually takes very unflattering photos of me.

Hope you are feeling better soon, too.

Carrie: Sorry to hear about your CTS. I thought I was getting it, but quickly learned it wasn't CTS since my pinkies were hurting, too. I just had a problem with swollen tissue/water retention in my knuckles. I started taking two shots of apple cider vinegar daily, and today (about five days later), my fingers are getting back to normal. It was very frustrating not having a good grip. We really take our hands for granted. I hope you find some relief soon!

Maryann: Congrats on being almost 37 weeks! Keep it up!

Megan: I'm so impressed with your car seat cover. It's gorgeous! Wow.

Janasmama: Your blanket is gorgeous too! So many talented mamas in this DDC.

Audsma: How neat that your wedding party is all knocked up around the same time! Very cool.

JMarie: Good luck to you with your IBS.

MommaFox. I hope your cervix starts co-operating soon. Please don't stress over it, that's not going to help.

Adorable blankie, TaraRae.

OrchideZ, you've been busy! Sounds like you made some great finds. I love to put a new coat of paint on something and have something unique. Sounds like everything is coming together nicely for you.

As for me, we finally completed the nursery yesterday! Even though Calla won't be in there for a while, I really wanted it to be finished. I'll revive the nursery pics thread and share a few pics there. We also installed the second car seat base. I think we've reached the point where all we have left to do to be "prepared" is pack those hospital bags. It's pretty exciting. I'm considering maternity pics and I want to re-do my belly cast because it came out with a blemish (after all that talk I did about how great alginate is - it is, we just had a problem).

Anyway, I'm 36 weeks today; getting so close now. DH and I met with my doula around lunchtime and she was talking about the big day. I started picturing having my baby in my arms and I just got overwhelmed and starting tearing up. I felt like such a dork! Of course my doula was cool about it - she's quite used to emotional pregnant women, I'm sure. I am just so excited about having the baby, I get happy tears when I think about it.

Tomorrow I have an OB appt and, I think, the GBS screening, too. Wish me luck. Have a great week everyone!
Wow, this thread is huge already!

It sounds like most everyone is doing well, I hope it keeps up.

I am 34 weeks today, which is exciting (although not nearly as exciting as you mamas who are at 37 weeks!) We have our home visit with the midwives this week. I have TONS of birth supplies that I still need to get and I have to have them by my appointment so the midwives can look over them, know where everything is, etc. YIKES!

Physically I am doing pretty well. My back is hurting from sitting at my desk all day, but otherwise I'm pretty holding up alright.

I will try to keep up with how everyone is doing, but at the rate this thread grows, we'll see.

OMG- you'll all love this. After a long hard night I got up to find that my dogs inflamed nipple was worse and was swollen and red. So we took her to the vet only to find that she's just basically nuts. She's experiencing a pseudo pregnancy. Yes, seriously.

omg that is too funny...though I do hope her nipple gets better soon.

I've skimmed the posts, and promise to reread and respond properly after ds goes to sleep tonight! Right now I'm just exhausted. We've got lots to do at my moms to get it ready for us. She's a pack-rat, so much to go through and get rid of.. not to mention we have to pull up the carpet in her livingroom (which is quite large) because her dogs have destroyed it. We did half of it today and decluttered half the livingroom and I'm just pooped! Do you know how difficult it is to pull up carpet and move things around with this huge belly in the way?! It's not even a question of having the energy, just this darn belly makes it difficult to bend over and lift things. Blah. So, lots done.. lots more to go.. tomorrow is another day (food bank in the morning, more carpet pulling in the afternoon, I just might have to take all of Weds. off to recover!). I really wish we'd known about this a couple of months ago when it would've been easier to get all of this done! Anyway, that's my whine for the day. I'm now sitting on my tush eating m&m's and they've never tasted so good!

Hope that everyone else is doing well, and those of you who've recently stopped working are enjoying your time off!

OMG that is too funny! How about this, my dog got pregnant w/ her first litter when I got pg this time and had her babies in april. She is now pregnant again I couldn't stop my two dogs from getting stuck being all big and pregnant and chasing DS around so now she will have had TWO litters in the time that I was pregnant with DS2

I'm so glad I'm not a dog!

OrchideZ you have been so busy. You certainly made up for lost time.

As for those of us who are feeling awful, I commiserate with you.

Tara- I too had planned to clean the whole house, super clean, but yesterday's foray into scrubbing the top of the kitchen cabinets met with some very stern disapproval from DH. I'm not the most coordinated person in the world, and so I might just forego the other side of the cabinets and work on what I can reach from the ground. It'll go faster this way!

Yesterday's excitement around here made me so happy to be pregnant again, despite the insomnia, hip pains, contrax, etc. My "baby" is growing up--DD lost her first tooth! She came out of Kindergarten yesterday holding this darling tooth shaped notecard with her itty bitty bottom tooth taped to it. We had an afternoon of phonecalls to family, and even an interrupted nap (she usually doesn't nap, but with a 6 pm soccer game, I thought it best for her to join me.) She fell asleep almost immediately although her aunts tried to convince her to stay up and wait for the tooth fairy, and I was the one who couldn't/can't sleep b/c of the excitement.

Now that I have caught up on what is happening with all of you, I'll hope I can sleep the rest of the night. Take care, you all, and have a great day!

OrchideZ,

That is an insane amount of effort that you did! Wow!

Megan,

Wow... you were pulling carpet? I'm impressed!

AAM...

Does anyone have anything that can be done about semi-high bp? I'm within normal range but at the very top end and I'm retaining water. My urine dip stick was fine, not even "trace" too. But I'd like to see this bp go back to fully normal range instead of the high end of normal range.

So far I'm doing epsom salt baths and am increasing my protein and water intake. Any other ideas?

whats going on w/ your doc suggesting a c/s or induction? have them stop the internal exams so they can stop scaring you.

AAM: I am beyond pissy right now. My DP and the friend who is working on the boy's room did NOT cover the changing table or the opening to the closet (i took the doors off of the closet b/c it gives me more room in there). EVERYTHING has to be rewashed. Those clothes and diapers have been washed and folded for MONTHS and its the ONE thing that i have already done and felt good about. i am soo bummed that i now have to rewash them...probably several times b/c of all the dust.

i have given up on cleaning and organizing at the same time. im interviewing someone to come in and clean a few times (before and after baby) b/c i just cant handle it. i feel guilty doing this b/c as a sahm i feel its my job to clean my house but damnit, im done!

and im just cranky.

i keep wanting to not feel like crap and hormonal but every time i turn around i am bitching about something. MADE. IT. STOP!!!!!!!

our friends were over last night after i was so upset about the clothes and diapers and she started making dinner for us. that was sooo sweet!

oh, and GEICO completely bites! they have NOT returned my calls. my back has been hurting alot since the accident (im sure its just pregancy related and the fact that i was looking at the car coming toward us and tightened up...but still its costing us money to increase my chiro. appts and the baby is in a perfect condition so i am not screwing around about this). i just ordered another car seat and im upset that they arent addressing these issues. I am calling our insurance co. today and am going to have them deal w/ it. AND we get to drive around the car that has 2 doors hit. Thats nice. Just fraking lovely, huh??

see? told you i was in a bad mood! lol!
