thinking about Haiti & vaxng

I need some advice. I have been torn on the vaccination debate for a long time. We vaccinated our first son before doing any research & decided to delay when our 2nd came along! Its been a year & we have not done anything.

The reason I'm so suddenly torn is because of all the things going on in Haiti. I spent a month there in 2001 before I had kids. I have wanted to return to visit friends ever since but have not had the financial means to do so, nor the time to really plan for a trip.

Obviously if I go I would want to take my family, but I feel like we would have to really be up on our vaccinations were we to go. I haven't done the research yet so I don't really know what would be necessary & safe. I am also muddled because I don't know what to believe as far as western reports on how bad things are there. Haiti has such a bad reputation in the western world & I understand why but there is a very wonderful side to it as well!

I know I won't be going any time soon. At least not until my kids are older and can understand some of what is going on. But perhaps I should start thinking of it now. Anyone know where I should start my research?

maybe see what the cdc recommends for that area- i am thinking mostly food borne illness- which you can probably avoid with sanitation, and being very selective with what/where you eat. otherwise, I am not really sure, if you are waiting until they are older (which I think is a very good idea) they will be stronger and better able to fight off anything they did possibly catch- but vaccines are not 100% effective, and there are many more diseases than those covered by vaccines - another reason that vaccines dont make a whole lot of sense.
