It wasn't prodromal after all

So I went into labor and delivery on Tuesday morning at the nurse's insistance that I get all the annoying back labor pains looked at. I had my doula come just in case and brought my suitcases just in case because I figured that even if there was no progress they would want to keep me just because of all the medical stuff. I was pretty uncomfortable and miserable especially after the bumpy car ride out there but I figured hey, what else is new because I'd had constant back pain and discomfort was nothing new so I was pretty sure I wasn't actually in labor. It was busy in the hospital that day so we were low on the triag totem pole because I seemed to be in such early labor. We sat there for a while and the contractions started getting bad enough we started joking that I was going to have a hospital UC.

We'd been there about an hour when they sent in a resident to check me and the way she grunted and strained to check me I thought, great I'm going to be high, closed and posterior. When she skeptically asked me how long I'd been in labor I knew my fate was sealed and after all labor pain they were just going to send me home. I said I've been having prodromal contractions for a few days off and on and the doctor said, "well, you're 9 cm." I was like, "oh." because I'd though I was at most about 6 cm and I was skeptical at that even. The room cleared then as everybody ran around in a panic because due to medical reasons I was supposed to have a cesarean. While everybody was running around getting IV's and everything ready I said to my doula, "well, you know how I said my arms were a little shaky a little while ago, I guess that was transition." The contractions hurt a lot and I was scared but I was still lucid and never really felt like I was in hard labor. I was cracking jokes as they wheeled me down the hall. By the time they got me to the OR I was complete but the baby was really high. So we went ahead and she was born about 4:30, about 3 hours after we left the house.

She was 10lbs 1oz and 21 1/2 inches long. And if you think that number is impressive, I'll remind you that she was 37 weeks 2 days. And she looks like a body builder because her body and shoulders are huge and she has tiny little feet. And she has frustrated every over zealous nurse in the hospital by being perfectly healthy and through our 4 days in the hospital out smarted about 3000 glucose and billiruben tests with perfect numbers despite all the dramaz becuase everyone was expecting her to have problems. And she is coombs negative, which means that my anti-bodies did not affect her.

She's nursing extremely well for a 37 weeker. It's wierd to have a baby this early who is very, very fuzzy, sleepy and verixy considering my first was very, very full term. We really lucky to have chosen the hospital we did becuase the staff was extremely nice, from Labor and Delivery to the Mother Baby Unit. My husband and first daughter were able to stay the whole time we were at the hospital so it was as close to a homebirth as we could get with all the medical stuff. They only complication I have is a spinal headache but I forgive the anesthesiologist because he looked like Barak Obama and really kept me sane trough the surgery.

Her name is private because her name is distincive and probably the only one in the state. Her name means buttercup in a foreign language so we'll just call her Princess Buttercup here. She is delicious and blubbery and has cheeks that will keep her warm through the winter.
