The Case for Renting - Page 2

We rent and plan on continuing to rent until we've found the place we want to settle down. We're not quite there yet.

My parents rented until I was around...15 and then bought their first home, which they still live in. Drives the bank mad that they don't want to refinance with all the equity they've built up. But, my stepdad is the kind of person who will not trade in a car until it's paid off and so on, so I know they'll stay there until at least most of the house is paid off.

I really WISH I was a renter right now. I'm stuck with a house that I owe way more than its worth (like 100K more than its worth.) We would love to move and we are completely stuck.

The only worries I have about renting are if the landlords are financially secure or if they are near foreclosure (but you could probably look that up.) I also have 2 boxer dogs and people tend to not want to rent to people with larger dogs, especially more than one. (I wouldnt want to either so I totally understand.) We love being able to change whatever we want, paint, flooring, crown moulding, etc. Granted when we were renters when we were first married, our landlord let us do whatever we wanted and even took some off the rent, which we werent expecting.

I think if you move around a lot it's not a bad idea to rent. I think its also a better idea in an unstable market.
