Wanted to show off some new pics of our puppy, Rue! My brother and his dog Bert (who we took care of for about a month in July) were down for the weekend and the three dogs had a great time hanging out!
Here's the three getting frisky and chasing me around.
Yeah the puppy zoomies are hilarious...Miles still gets them sometimes too and he's almost 3yrs old! We call it the "my butts of fire" dance
Julia - so far I've been concentrating on basic manners, the standard "sit", "down", "stand" postions, loose leash walking, non-formal recalls and stays, and I've taught her two tricks "shake" and a nose touch to a target or my hand (useful for further obedience training and agility). I've also been working on shaping some silly behaviours like stand on a stool, get in a box, etc. Shaping is a method of training that splits the end behaviour down into tiny little steps so the dog actually becomes a thinking dog not just one that follows commands and a lure. For example to shape Rue to get on the stool I brought her into a boring room armed with a clicker and lots of treats. Then I plopped the stool down on the ground and said nothing. The first thing most dogs do when something appears in their environment is to start investigating it--so I clicked and treated her looking at the stool, then looking longer at the stool, then taking a step towards the stool and so on until I got all four feet on the stool.
Eating is an entirely different story. She has good days and bad days and the last few days have been bad. She's barely eating anything, but she's acting fine and her breeder assures me that she'll be fine. So I'm trying not to worry about it. But we've gone from barely eating to barking at me for food (uhm I don't think so honey) to eating everything in sight and back to not eating again
Frustrating but I'm not worrying about it as long as she's gaining appropriately and acting fine.
There's nothing cuter than a wet Golden puppy running around. I wish I could have another Golden, so post lots so we can live vicariously!
