HiB & Prevnar and Elderly Relatives

My baby is coming up on his 2-month ped appointment and we need to make a decision about vax. He is healthy (as far as we know), exclusively BF and stays at home with me. We're considering delaying shots or spacing out shots or skipping shots altogether....feeling very up in the air right now.

One "looming cloud" for me is that we'll probably be with DH's family in 3 months for Xmas and DH's grandmother (who is 90) will be there. She had been living with DH's parents but just moved into assisted living. My understanding (is this correct?) is that HiB and Pc would be more prevalent in a facility of elderly people, and thus, she'd be more likely to be a carrier. If we do not vax for HiB and Pc, will I be putting our son at more of a risk?

I realize, of course, that if she does carry Pc, it's quite possible that it won't be a strain covered by the current incarnation of Prevnar.

If you don't vax or selectively vax, how do you deal with things like this?

I should add that she has yet to meet her great-grandson and would probably be upset if not allowed to hold him or get close...

To be honest, I just didn't ever worry about stuff like that. I know that can't help with your decision making, but that is how I felt. It just didn't stress me out.
