Laundry soap ingredient ~ HELP!

I want to make my own laundry soap using the recipe from the stinky towel thread. However, I can't find washing soda!!! I know it is not the same as baking soda.. I have looked at my local stores, Meijers and Walmart.. I can go into a bigger town, but I'm not sure where to look. Where do you find it? Or can I sub something else in its place. I do have clorox 2 powder, could I sub that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Arm & Hammer makes it, in a bright yellow box. It's also called washing soda crystals and comes in a white bag with blue writing (can't remember that brand name)...
Our Kroger and locally owned grocery store carry it. Oh, and Aldi's too. If you ask the manager at a local grocery, he/she should be able to order just a case and see how it sells...

There is really no substitute... at least, I wouldn't sub in the reciepe.

We have washing soda at our local Meijer; we find it in the laundry aisle way up high, packaged in a yellow arm&hammer box about the size of a small box of cereal.

It's technically sodium carbonate or soda ash. It's what people use to up the pH in pools, so if you have a store that sells pools supplies, just get some soda ash. Same thing. HTH.

I could only find it at Kroger as well, after looking in every other grocery store and hardware store myself... you should be able to find it in the laundry aisle.
