Hi, my mom got me onto Xylitol and I'm now doing the epic dental program [
www.epicdental.com]. I always seemed to have one or 2 cavities no matter how much I brushed, flossed, and rinsed each time I went to the dentist.
Then after my son got ECC and we started treating him with Xylitol, my mom inquired why didn't I do the program as well. She actually bought the first kit which includes toothpaste [spearmint], candies and gum, and a bottle of Xylitol rinse; it is a 1 month supply.
From the responses I got from Dr Ellie, Xylitol won't remineralize a big cavity, though it
WILL halt it. However using Xylitol will remineralize small cavities - my son is proof of that.
We make a toothpaste for him because he says mint toothpastes are too "hot." We use 2 zellies [
www.zellies.com] candies, Fresh Fruit, and 3 Ricochet [
www.emeraldforestxylitol.com ] candies, Cherry Blast, crush them up and mix with a small bit of Tom's of Maine fluoride-free Strawberry toothpaste [it doesn't have any Xylitol in it] and then brush his teeth.
He loves it, then we rinse his mouth with a tsp of Xylitol granules and about a Tbsp of water. That way he gets 6 grams of Xylitol right there. According to all the research that has been done, you need between 6 to 10 grams of Xylitol daily. Brush twice daily and you're covered.
Anyway, it has certainly helped us. :>D
