Am I in labor?

I am trying to decide whether to wake DH up to go to the hospital. If you're awake, please help!

I've been having contractions 3-4 minutes apart since yesterday afternoon. They have become gradually more intense and painful. I took an ambien because I thought it was more false labor. I fell asleep around midnight, but recently woke up unable to sleep through the contractions anymore. They are 1-2 minutes long and they are painful, both in my lower abdomen and especially my back. I've been trying to walk around the house some. I am feeling shaky and nauseous and I've been having some tummy troubles, if you KWIM. I'm also having significant bloody show - it is like slippery thin clear fluid tinted pink and with streaks of red blood. Does this sound like labor? I hate to wake my husband up and drag him to the hospital for nothing...

I'm crashing your DDC since they're probably sleeping

It sounds promising, but most people have a good few hours when ALL they can do between contractions is relax and rest, typing on the computer would be way off the radar, so it's probably still early just now. Are you having to concentrate HARD to breathe through them? If you DON'T try to breathe through them do you yell a bit? By the time i was 3 hours from delivering most of the people in my building knew i was in labour, let alone my DP!

What is your birth plan? It's usually better to labour at home as long as possible unless you know you're high risk for some reason already (preavia or high blood pressure or whatever). If you were hoping to get to hospital in time for your baby to be caught then you likely have plenty of time, but if you need to have a section or monitoring for some reason you could go in now.

Why don't you wake hubby gently and tell him you THINK labour is starting, that way if things suddenly progress you can be leaving quite quickly...?

That sounds a lot like what was happening to me when I was in full blown labor. And I was able to type on the computer - so it was not off the radar for me. I was actually given an ambien by my midwife (er, medwife really) to help sleep that night but only slept for just under 2 hours then awoke. Wasn't sure why I woke up. Was having lots of bloody show. Midwife thought I popped a blood vessel from the pressure of the baby and told me to call her again when the contractions were under 5 mins. So at that point I got in the tub and my mom started timing them and I was 2-3 mins apart. I just didn't feel my contractions very significantly until I got into the tub, which is why I was able to be on the computer and what not. Once in the tub though they did get much stronger, as I was actually in transition at that time. We only timed them for a half hour then got ready to go back to the hospital. When I arrived, I was 9.5cms! I had NO idea I was this far along! It was my first baby and I definitely expected it to take a lot longer and get much more intense.

So, I say all this to say that it might be a good idea to wake your husband. Even though I had a bag packed and everything, it still took us a while to actually get out of the house. So letting him know this might be it would be good. Ambien will help you sleep, but won't make you sleep through true labor contractions is what I was told.

Good luck to you! Hope you have a wonderful birthing time and enjoy holding your baby in your arms very soon!!

Definitely sounds like labor to me! I'd wake your DH. Good luck!!

Sounds like labour, but maybe still quite early. I would wake your DH and see what happens- chances are that if the company doesn't slow things down, baby's on his way.

Another vote for true labor, though I expect you've already woken your DH and are at the hospital. Good luck!

It was labor! We went to the hospital shortly after I posted and I was 5cm and 80% effaced with a very bulging bag of waters. I wish I could say my labor was easy from there out but it wasn't.

Anyways, Sofie Genevieve was born at 2:50 pm on 9/16. She weighed 8lbs9oz and was 20 inches long. She is perfect in every way, we are home from the hospital, and she is a nursing champ!

I can't stand being in the hospital We left as early as they would possibly discharge us.
