Lawrence mamas?

Hey all! The kids and I moved to Lawrence about a month ago, and I think we're finally settled in to our house and schools.

I'm looking for maybe a playgroup (my kids are 3 and 5), or activities for us as a family, as well as some adult interaction for myself! LOL

Is there a community calendar I could check out? It seems like I keep hearing about cool activities AFTER they're over! Bums me right out.

I was thinking about possibly finding some classes for the kids - DS has done gymnastics in the past and liked it, and I think DD would totally love it. DD would actually like any sort of dance/music activity (who am I kidding - DD would love ANY sort of social activity - for 3 yo she is a social queen). I was also thinking of maybe looking into some sort of martial art for DS - I think the discipline involved (from what I understand, at least) would help him greatly. Any thoughts/experiences?

I love Lawrence, and I know its a great place for NFL families, but for some reason I am having a tough time getting hooked up w/any groups or activities.

Thanks!

Two great organizations for classes and activities for the wee ones are the Lawrence Arts Center and Lawrence Parks and Rec.

There is an AP playgroup in Lawrence; if you do a search, you'll find the link here. Sorry, my kids are too old for that sort of thing, we've lost touch with any playgroups!

The Public Library also has a lot of fun activities for the younger kids, too. South Park is always a good bet for meeting some mamas and papas.

Good luck!

Thanks mamas! Last week was terrible for us - DD and I were sick - then we went out of town this weekend. Hopefully we'll get a chance to be more social this week and see if we can make some connections.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Enjoy Lawrence
This has a great listing of young kids activities.

Parks & rec link
they have some great programs

Also lawrence.com and visitlawrence.com are good to check out for upcoming events. Lawrence.com is geared more towards the college age, but still frequently lists family friendly events. Once things warm up there will be great outdoor activities. The get downtown and buskerfest this past year were great and very family friendly.

Welcome :-)
