Nutrition and Physical Denigration or Cure Tooth Decay?

Which book should I get? We're placing an amazon order (a big deal for us since we're overseas, lol) and I definitely want to get at least one of these books. I know that Cure Tooth Decay is based heavily on the WAP book. What do you think? I would really love a cookbook but I'm not getting that Sally Fallon book - I think she's kind of a nut. :
Thanks!

i think you can find nutrition and physical degeneration free online
post #3 of 15
I would get both frankly. As the pp stated, Nutrition and Physical Degradation is available free on line.

If you are not interested in getting Nourishing Traditions, you might like to consider Real Food: What to East and Why, by Nina Planck.

Ah, ok, thanks. I've seen it free online, but I know that I'm not going to read it in that format, it's just too difficult for me. My eyes start to go numb.

Does Real Food contain recipes? I was under the impression that it doesn't..

Cuer Tooth Decay is an excellent book. It is worth owning, and you will refrence back to it often. Nutrition and PD is one you should have in you home library, but may onlt read it once or twice (which you deffinitely should), but if you need pretty intence clear cut aplicatioon, and can only get one book, I would go with CTD. But do get the other in the future. The website for CTD has most of the stuff from the book, summerized. He does that for those who need help with teeth but cant afford the book. So nice.

To be honest, I would buy Nourishing Tradition over all the books.

Nutrition and Physical Degeneration- application

shinestar
I caught this a bit late...
Oh, well. I was going to suggest getting Eat Fat, Lose Fat (I know, you think Sally's nuts....regardless, I think it's good- more practical than Nourishing Traditions, tho NT is chock full of info, esp. on how to prepare unfamiliar foods). Don't own Cure Tooth Decay. ??

Nutritional Degeneration is a great book for your library, but as said by a previous poster, you probably won't read it often. If all you wanted was to extract the pages in it that give a practical example of what to eat for health recovery, then you can just print out the following pages from the online version where specific case studies are given and an outline of what they were fed;

**- 4 yr. old emaciated, rampant tooth decay, fracture not healing, bronchial cough, convulsions p. 269 and p. 377 and p. 427 (same case mentioned several times)
Found only twice online under Ch. 15 "This is illustrated in the following case" and
Ch 19. "There are some phases of modern physical degeneration in which most of
us take part with remarkable complacency. "
**- 5 yr. old bedfast, swollen knees/wrists, rigid spine, rheumatic fever, arthritis, acute heart involvement, tooth decay, endocarditis p. 273
Found in Ch. 15 "The necessity that the foods selected and used shall provide an
adequate quantity of fat-soluble activators......"
**- mission children w/ cavities p. 288, 290 and p. 428-9 (same case)
Found once in Ch. 16 "Under the stress of the industrial depression the family.."

In addition, there's Weston A. Price's "Letter to His Nieces and Nephews" online where he outlines what he recommends they eat.

Oh, I wish I had read this post! Thanks so much. After I very briefly described each book to Dh, he insisted on getting them all. I'm ok with coming online and reading stuff, especially here on MDC, but there's no way he's going to do that. I was surprised - these books are not cheap, at around $30 each. But he said to just get them.

What's the difference btwn Fallons MT and Eat Fat? This is so hard to do online! I wish we had bookstores here with this stuff available so I could actually see everything.

Thanks!

ETA: By thwe way, that being said, just printing out the relevant pages from the online version of ND by Price would have been much cheaper and maybe would have made more sense! Oh well..

Nutrition and Physical Degeneration or Cure Tooth Decay

shinestar,
You can always return the book/s, no? (I know, a hassle).

Nourishing Traditions is a wonderful book full of recipes and tons of info, however, IMO, perhaps a bit overwhelming for a person who's beginning (and for veteran's too, lol). Not that I wouldn't recommend it down the line.

Eat Fat, Lose Fat has a comprehensive list of brand names of products that you might be able to purchase locally at your supermarket if you're not a member of a local WAP group yet. There are sample menu plans (with step by step implementation and ideas of what to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks), shopping list, recommended superfoods (and resource section with #s of where to obtain), recipes.
Really, more of a cliff note type and guide book that NT isn't. And, it's cheaper too and lighter to carry around! I doubt you'll hate me for telling you to go with this one first.

My Nutrition and Physical Degeneration is falling apart. This is more for "theory"..... again, I don't regret buying it for my library. But, you won't use it much.
I don't have the Cure Tooth Decay, so I have no opinion on that.

Take care

I also recommend the GAPS book. It has a lot of recipes and "eat this" information. www.gapsdiet.com

Another one to think about down the road is Fiber Menace. It talks more about what NOT to eat. www.fibermenace.com

But I totally agree with the Cure Tooth Decay purchase. You will love it! (see my siggy)

I have both Gut and Pschology Syndrome and Breaking the Vicious Cycle (the book by which SCD is based on- the GAPS diet).
They're good, but they're geared toward a different direction than WAPF. Both books are by women who had children with different health issues, the 1st a child with autism, the 2nd a child with serious digestive issues. Although, they incorporate a wholefood diet, they're not really based on traditional foods (the GAPS book a bit more.)
Just wanted to point out that the GAPS book is not exactly a WAPF based book (it's grain free, mostly dairy free). And many people that have done SCD (me included), have eventually moved on from there toward WAP. For people having allergies, digestive issues- I personally would still recommend the Eat Fat Lose Fat- with an emphasis on water kefir grain based drinks, coconut products, gluten free.... and incorporating ideas (specific supps) from Dr. Tom Cowan's Fourfold Path to healing book section for allergies.
Just my 2 cents after yrs. of traveling down the special diets path. Sorry for going off on a tangent from the original post.

Wow, thanks so much. I appreciate it. I'm not too sure about Eat Fat, to be honest, since I live overseas and don't see many of the name brands in the States. Hmmm..

I just heard of another WAPF book about dental health. It is called The Perfect Prescription For Your Teeth.
