Another Aldi's question

I've seen people say how much they like Aldi's for various products, but how are their meats? Quality and price- similar to grocery stores or warehouse clubs? We currently have a warehouse club membership- I generally buy cheese in bulk there, some meat/chicken/fish and a few other staples. Does Aldi's have good prices on cheese or sell any items in larger sizes? I know they stock popular items, but didn't know if that meant only smaller packages of each item.

I'm interested in finding out about Aldi's...we just saw and add in the paper a couple of weeks ago that Aldi's is coming to our area...and I've never heard of them before!

wish I could answer, but I'm a vegetarian. All I can say is if you don't get an answer, then give Aldi's a try for yourself. I think the savings are significant for the things that I buy.

We get 99% of our meat from a friend who has (non-certified) organic farm animals. We buy it by the side (beef) or whole animal (pork & chicken). I've occasionally filled in with Aldi meats between butchering seasons. Compared to other supermarket meats, it's no worse, no better, imho.

Compared to my local grocery store, cheese is much cheaper. I usually can get a 4 cup bag of shredded cheese for $3 or less. I can get slices cheese much cheaper too. A 2 cup bag of cheese cost $2.40 in the local grocery!

Now meat I am kinda picky about. We spend a little more. I have a couple of time bought the ground beef from Aldi's and it was not up to my standards. We have an EXCELLENT grocery store here and the meat is very good. We also buy organic beef when we can, so there is no comparison. I think you could live on their meat, but it is not the top of the line by ant means.

Cheese, cereal, flour, sugar, oil, vegies, fruit, milk, zip baggies, garbage bags, clean supplies, frozen foods, junk food, (Chips, cookies, bars) all this is so darn cheap that it is silly to go anywhere else. The cheese is just as good as any other place. All the stuff offers a double your money back if you don't like it.

We don't tend to buy a lot of cheese from aldi's but I have to strongly recommend the ground turkey if your store carries it. It's in the freezer section, and at my store is only a dollar per pound. It's in one pound tubes to no trying to cut and store involved. I use it in place of all my ground beef.

I do find that in general their cheese is less $ than at any other of the stores in my area. Sometimes the other stores will have it on sale, and then it is less... so I sort of keep Aldi's as my lowest price point, if you know what I mean. I do not buy meat there aside from the occasional pack of all beef hot dogs or smoked sausage. They get the other meat (the stuff in the vacuum sealed plastic boxes w/ clear "lids") from a company I do not care to support. They do not sell in bulk like at warehouse stores (like a pack of 60 rolls or whatever), but there is usually no limit on how many you can get of each item. As there is no warehouse store around me, I have no idea how the prices match up, sorry.

Slightly OT; I only go to Aldi's once a month. This month when I went I had to adjust all my prices. Everything went up by 5 to 10 cents!
