anything for hair loss?

I have been losing large amounts of hair each time I wash my hair for a while now. I can feel a difference in my hair, it seems like my pontytail is thinner than it ever was and my hair line is different. I talked to a doctor and they did a series of tests to check for hormonal imbalance and everything seemed ok. The doctor just told me to try rogaine. Is there any natural way to encourage hair growth and health? My hair is very dry and my scalp is also. TIA!

if you have a chinese medicine practioner (acupuncture but especially herbs) near you, they should be able to help you bring your body back into balance to prevent more hair loss and grow more hair. w/o looking at pulse, tongue, and asking lots of questions, i would say that you could try drinking nettles tea daily-- i would get the bulk herb and infuse a small handful in a quart jar with boiling water for at least 20 minutes and then drink it throughout the day. that's just my opinion based on what i do know.... but you might do a search on mdc for when susun weed (great herbalist!) has her open phone night; she would probably be a fabulous resource. i'd be happy to try to troubleshoot more if you want to pm me. (although i don't actually know how that works-- you'll have to give me directions!)

It could be some kind of nutritional deficiency, or it might be part of a normal hair-growth cycle. Each individual hair grows for a length of time and then stops, stays there a while, then when a new hair starts growing in the same follicle the long hair falls out. Usually this process is staggered but sometimes it works out that lots of hair stopped growing around the same time, leading to them all falling out together.

Pregnancy is one of those things that sometimes resets that cycle- it's very common for women to find their hair thicker than normal during pg and then thinning out a few months after giving birth. If "island baby" is your bio-child and is only a few months old then this might be what's happening to you.

Did you get a full thyroid panel run? T3, T4, TSH, etc.?

My doctor suspected thyroid. It started falling out after I had my dd (she is 4 btw). He said it should stop after a few months while my body's hormones evened out again. I have had bloodwork done and everything checks out. I will definitely try the tea. Thank you ladies for all your suggestions. You guys rock.
