Medical transcription buddies?

Hi:

I am an experienced medical transcriptionist in Canada working from home 4 days/week. We follow the AAMT guidelines and type all specialties.

I was wondering if anyone would like to be buddies while we work? Not sure how to put this, but I mean asking for help with a term, dictation, whatever. The AAMT website has this, but I find it hard to navigate and really, I'd much rather be working with other MDC moms! We could share info on best sites and stuff, too.

My schedule is usually Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; though I work in evenings and nights, too, to finish up a day's work. I would love to buddy up with others. I did a quick search for this and couldn't find anything.

Not sure how it would work...we could compare schedules and just use this thread, I guess; or we could PM each other. Pretty new to the technical stuff, not sure how to make it work.

Hi! i would love to be buddies! i near Seattle, and do mt for all specialties (family practice, womens clinic, physiatrist and neurologist are on my daily list...) I only started a couple months ago, don't have formal training, just lots of medical experience..so it has been a bit tough! I feel (and my family feels) like i work all the time, and i haven't figured out how to balance my day very well yet. I have some stupid questions too, like when the tape sound drifts away while playing, what the heck is that? It gets loud again when i let off the foot pedal and push it down again, taht adds a tone of time to my day! I would love some mentoring about how to better schedule my time and get my work done faster!! I work during the day until about 2 and then again abuot 9. I have also taken on a pt bookeeping job a couple mornings a week to supplement by income, cause I haven't been brining in enough yet doing mt. Leigh

I'm currently taking a break from MT - new baby and in the middle of a move - only completing overflow work. I think this is a great idea, though! I work on a multi-specialty account, as well.

Avas, All my work is digital, but I wonder if what you are describing has something to do with the tape being overused. VCR tapes do that when they are getting old and overused. Just a thought! =)

I have been working as an mt for 2 months now and would like to have as many buddies as I can. I work on acute-care, multi-specialty accounts. I am not making decent money yet.

I was in MT for 7 years, just last year I transitioned to IT support for our transcription department. If anyone has issues with Meditech, Dolbey, or DVI/Voicewave, I'm your girl!

I'm currently a student, but I'll be your buddy once I am done!

I'm a student, too, but I'm sure I'll need some buddies once I start working.

vloky, what school/training are you doing?

I work part-time from home as a MT. My biggest problem is finding the motivation to work on days when kids are whiney, I don't feel good, and my fingers feel stiff from yesterday's work. LOL. I really do love being able to bring in some money, though.

I work overflow for a small WAHM-based company and part-time for a large, nationwide company. I go back and forth about dropping one account and doing the other full-time, but the situation seems to work out providing just enough work to keep me busy, but not so much that I feel the pressure and want to run away.

I'd love some MT buddies to run things by in a pinch.

Does anyone have any recommendations on companies that might hire someone with no experience??? I got my certification earlier this year, but haven't been able to find anything that doesn't require atleast 2 years experience.

Have you checked with the school you attended? Ask which companies their graduates have had success with.

I have to run the kids to school, but if you PM me I will send you links to a couple of companies who 'always' seem to be looking for workers. =)

Yes, I did ask after I completed the program, but she was really not helpful...as far as WAH jobs.

PMing you now!

Your best luck will be with smaller companies. I got both of my first jobs from ads on craigslist. I was turned down by all the bigger companies I tested for. Be patient and just keep applying. Finding that first job is the hardest part.
