Blood but not bloody show? *update - in labor!*

I started feeling crampy and a lot of pressure on my cervix yesterday and had a few contractions about 10 minutes apart that fizzled out when I got up and moved around. I woke up this morning at 4am (London time) with more. Two at ten minutes apart but then moving to more about every five. I got up to pee and when I wiped there was blood on the toilet paper. Not a lot, just a smear, but it wasn't accompanied by mucous. I put a pantyliner on and after a few more contractions I checked it and there was a tiny bit of red blood on it. Is that normal, or should it definitely be blood-tinged mucous?

Okay, there's a bit more mucous coming now so I'm sure it's the plug. Also had the pre-labor 'clearing out' and contrx are coming roughly every 5 minutes but still very manageable. I think I'll be meeting my baby today! :

Hmm...contrx have gone from every 5 mins to every 10-12. Losing more plug though. Could it be a false alarm or is it normal for things to slow down before they pick back up?

ETA: They've gone back to every 8 minutes consistently so hoping that things start picking up soon. I'm just sitting on my birth ball listening to an Indigo Girls cd, singing at the top of my lungs and just generally feeling really happy and excited.
