Selling home and decorating for holidays?

We have our house listed for sale and I've been trying to keep all unnecessary items hidden.

I have young kids and would like to decorate, but I'm afraid it will just add clutter.

What do you think? Anyone else selling? Are you decorating?

We are not selling now but last year we did have our house listed from Thanksgiving on until March. I went ahead and still put up decorations, but really cut back on the number, so the house seemed festive and cheery but not like a Christmas explosion. Good luck!

In terms of staging your house, I would put up a few Christmas items, but I wouldn't go overboard. Christmas decorating can be very idiosyncratic and you want potential buyers to be able to envision themselves living in your house...

I just realized you were not necessarily talking about Christmas, but the same holds true for all the other upcoming holidays!

I would do maybe a wreath or something, but not much, at all.

I would just keep it really simple. A wreath and maybe some basic lights. Wait until after Thanksgiving to put up. Our house is on the market now and we try and keep a pot of nice looking seasonal flowers by the front door. We will transition into a pair of pumpkins soon.

Go for seasonal stuff more than holiday specific items. But yes, decorate some!
