Safe laquer

Hi all,

I bought a little table and chair set for my DS, and it is unfinished. I would like to finish it because I know it will get covered in food/crayon/etc. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to get some safe stain or sealant? I went to Michael's and they told me they were all pretty much toxic. Thanks!

I got some beeswax from Palumba that is very nice, but I don't know how it would hold up on a table.
