forget gold--what about stockpiling salt?

Many people who are preparing for various calamities advocate investing in gold because paper money may be worthless. But what about salt? Why not stockpile it instead? It is very cheap now. It can be stored indefinitely. If you have a self-sufficient homestead, it could be very useful for preserving food. And it may become very valuable in the future for barter. What do you all think?

Hum...interesting idea! It is useful!! Might be good for bartering Lemon Juice also might be good and vinegar

I though do have visions of Homer Simpson and when he recovered sugar from a car crash and tried to sell it with shards of glass
