Moving to Leesburg area of VA..need info

Ok, actually we aren't sure...

I grew up in that area (now we are in Hagerstown, MD) but, I still work in Leesburg..we are considering moving to Leesburg (or close to Leesburg) to cut down my commute, and so when my son (now 17mos) is in school that I am nearby to him etc.. Things are more complicated in that I'm hoping to eventually be a SAHM or WAHM so I can homeschool. If not, we will probably do private school (I've been looking into Loudoun Country Day)

Because we are moving from a way lower cost area I am concerned that we could end up in an unsafe neighborhood or something...so if there is any neighborhoods to absolutely stay away from, please let me know. I'm also just interested in info about playgroups, homeschool groups, LLL, really just about anything a natural minded AP momma would like to know...maybe even where to shop for those types of things...

Thanks a bunch!

Hey there... I think I've bumped into you on here before. Maybe you were going to come to Greenbrier last summer? or looking for childcare? or something?

We are in Crestwood Hamlet (not that far from Loudoun Country Day) in Leesburg. It is one of the cheaper, older town home communities and has its issues (mainly in the areas of foreclosures and folks picking up after themselves), but I have literally left my car door open, my keys in my front door etc. and never had a safety problem. Plus it is walking distance to downtown, Safeway, two health food stores, W&OD, Douglas & Foxridge parks etc. We would love to see more folks with young kids nearby

I have listed lots of Leesburg resources, including a local AP group, on my blog and am linking rather than retyping it all. Also there have been lots of previous moving to Leesburg/ Ashburn/ Loudoun threads so it may be worth searching this tribe a bit.

Hi We're in Lovettsville. We're closer than H'town to Leesburg. Housing costs are cheaper, the community is crunchier, and it's sooo much smaller than Leesburg. There's a good size homeschool group here. LOL and there's certainly not a bad part of town. I think the townhouses are well under 200k now. And there are small single fams for low 200s and brand new Ryan homes for high 200k/low 300s

We love it! We haven't decided about school for *next* year yet, but my oldest is enjoying his first year at the Community Center Preschool.
