Title says it all. Does anyone know or have experience with Medicaid or FAMIS covering homebirth? I'm in Charlottesville, VA.

It all depends if the midwife takes medicaid.
I'd just call around and ask.

yes

My midwife in Hampton, VA accepts medicaid. She generally works in the tidewater area. I'm in Richmond and I think that's the furthest they'll travel. But feel free to get in touch with her. As far as I know she is the only CPM who takes medicaid... though there may be homebirth CNMs-- not sure.

www.blessedbirthservices.com is her site

Famis/Medicaid

I'm on Medicaid and using a midwife. MW told me to wait until my third trimester and request "fee for service" instead of the managed care plan. You have to call Medicaid (or Famis) and request this (my caseworker was not helpful). I just called last week since I'm 27 weeks now and I have not yet received confirmation of covered services, but the woman spoke to said my MW was correct. Good luck!
