Mold in house - x-posted in Health & Healing

I just heard from my best friend that her house has been taken over by mold. She finding it growing on furniture, clothes, shoes, inside bags. She thinks its also in the carpet.

It's really affecting her asthma and she's not feeling too good, plus she's trying to figure out how to get rid of it. She also has kids, including a 1 year old (husband is away on a trip right now).

Can anyone give any tips about this? What can she do for her health? How can she effectively clean? Anything? She's freaking out and I'm really worried for all of them, but I live 1500 miles away and can't go help her clean.

She lives in the Southwest, if the region is important.

She needs to find someone who can test and find out what kind of mold it is. Then she needs to talk to a company that gets rid of it and also figure out why she has it and fix that problem. I would start calling some labs and see who they recommend calling for the testing.

I agree, she needs to have some testing done to see if it is also inside the walls. It is a very serious problem, and she should probably not stay there until it is resolved. I have seen first hand the damage unseen mold can do to the health of people. Is it only her house? Whole neighborhoods can have problems due to building defects.

Tell her to find a mold specialist (though this time of year they are busy, busy here in the SW)
