Hi! ICAN of DC is holding its first meeting after a short break over
the summer.

If you or someone you know has had a cesarean and is interested in
learning about healing or how to prepare for another pregnancy,
please come to the program.

Program Details:

Healing After Cesarean: Post-Partum Recovery and Beyond

Most women do not anticipate having a Cesarean section and yet at
least one out of every three mothers today have experienced birth in
an operating room. This major surgery can have a profound impact on
both your physical and emotional recovery after birth. While it may
have been necessary to assure the health of your child, you or your
baby may be experiencing complications or side-effects that you
didn't expect. It also affects your plans for more children. Please
join us for a presentation and discussion on ways to heal from
cesarean birth. Discussion will focus on a variety of post-surgical
treatments and emotional support resources in our area. The
discussion will be led by Janet Brown, , Licensed Massage Therapist
owner of Integrative Health Massage Therapy; Laura Possessky, ICAN of
DC leader and birth rights advocate.
Date: September 28, 2008
Time: 7 PM
Place: Healing Arts of Capitol Hill. Address: 320 G Street, NE

PM me with any questions. We look forward to seeing you there.

Be Well,
Janet

I would love to see lots of moms come out for this. As someone who had a cesarean myself it definitely helps to talk to others with a common experience. Plus you'll get to see me try to give a presentation. Maybe even PowerPoint, if I can figure it out.

I want to come!!!! Not sure if we already talked to each other but I am PG with #2 and had a c/s with #1 (was induced, etc, ds posterior- should not have happened!). Anyway I am planning a VBAC this time. Will you be talking about VBACs and things related, like doulas, etc?
Thanks! My email is jennyftb1177@aol.com. Barbara the Baltimore ICAN leader sent me your post!!!

Jenny,

I sent you an email, but in case you don't get it we'd love to have you. This month we are talking about alternative therapies for healing after cesarean. There will be some local doulas present.

Hope you can make it,
Janet

I would love to have a copy of the Powerpoint presentation sent to me if you don't mind...I'm on the eastern shore & am in the process of beginning a local ICAN chapter here....I'm a 2x c-sec momma & if (when?) we have a 3rd, I'd love to try a VBAC if I can find someone/where to let me attempt it.

The next meeting will probably be the third Sunday in October or October 19th. We didn't want it to be the same time as the Birth Options Alliance meeting which is the last Sunday. We'd love to have you at the next one of course.
