Well, I had to have a root canal retreated due to an abscessed tooth. I agreed to this only because of the pain I was in. To my horror, I had a total of 10-11 x rays, though they were digital x rays. I think if I ever have another abscessed tooth that I will have to go with extraction because of all the darn x rays and because of the time involved. I have spent probably 5 hours on this tooth and still have another 2 appointments if I decide get my broken crown replaced.
Anyway, my question is regarding x rays and if there is any way to combat the negative affects of them. I plan to take extra vitamin C. I wanted to get pregnant in about 6 months to give my body some time to detox from all this crap and the x rays. I am scared though about the negative affects on a developing baby in that short amount of time. However, I am getting older and need to pop out a couple more babes soon!
Also there is a metal cap under the crown. I don't know if it contains mercury or not and whether I should be concerned. They did have to drill through it during the retreatment process. I don't know if I should get it replaced or not with a porcelain cap and whether I should get the crown replaced. I think if it involves more x rays I may just forgo getting the crown replaced and have a larger composite placed over the broken part of the crown. Also if the metal cap contains mercury I am reluctant to do anything more with it. Does anyone know if the metal caps contain mercury which are placed underneath crowns?
Also, the filling they put in today is gray instead of white like most composite fillings. Though it doesn't look like a amalgam. Does anyone know what this is? It definitely doesn't look like metal but it is gray. It is nothing like my husbands amalgam but is sort of an opaque gray.
