had two month vax appt

So we took LO to his 2 month vax appt. First the dr asked about if I was formula feeding or breast feeding. I answered exclusivley BFing. She answered with "Still?!" in a kinda snobby way....even dh noticed. Then I told her how LO wakes from a sleep choking and gasping. She goes on to tell me that it is normal for babies to "sigh deeply" yada yada. I tell her its not a "sigh". She continues talking about babies and "sighing". Whatever.
Then we tell her we want to delay and be really selective in what we give. She tells us how she has people that do not vax but never heard of delaying vaccines. Then she goes into how whooping cough season is here and he is high risk for it? and it could hosptalize him. So after talking about it for a few minutes dh and I reluctantly agree to the dtap because we are concerned about whooping cough. We did not do any others tho.
She also told us how the "immunity" from the vaccines wear off so you need to redo them in adolescence in adulthood. So dh says then why do they give babies the hepB? She says its so if they do drugs and share needles or have unprotected sex with someone infected they are vaccinated. DH laughs and says "well hes not doing that obviously"....yanno cause he is a BABY. And she says "Well what if he decides to be a dr. and gets pricked with dirty infected needle?" DH says "well we will let him know that he hasn't had the vaccine and he can decide if he wants it". She replies with something along the lines of ...lets hope you are "around" to tell him and to make sure we do.
WEIRD.
So....now he has had one hepb and vit. K at birth (cause we didnt know) and one dtap.

What do you think? What would you do?

RUN!!! This doctor is either lying or doesn't know anything about deisease or vaccination...next thing she'll do is try to retract your son telling you she just wants to take a peek....

Hope DS handles the DTaP ok

re

Thank you for your replies. We are just learning about alternative schedules and the diseases/vaccine risks etc. Plus, I get kind of overwhelmed/confused with the info and need things explained in laymens (sp?) terms. I feel like its a no win sometimes too because *what if* I do vax and he has a bad reaction but then *what if* I dont and he gets sick and ends up hospitalized? Plus I hate the ingredients. My dh is a compounding pharmacist tech and even he thinks its too much too soon.

What is the longest you can go between dtap shots without having to redo the first one....or is there such a thing?

This part is easy...diseases are treatable - even if they require hospitalization (which is rare). Reactions (on the rare occasion that you can get a HCP to even admit that a reaction occurred/is occurring) are not treatable and can be lifelong.

You can wait as long as you want...I'm waiting forever!

http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/sch...chedule_pr.pdf "A vaccine series does not need to be restarted, regardless of the time that has elapsed between doses."

We just had our 2 month appointment and because I really like my doctor I wanted to feel her out in terms of vax schedules (we're not doing any) so I told her that we wanted to delay vaxing until I could do more research as we are considering NOT vaxing (enter bomb)

Well she actually used the term Black Death and after that I just sat there, heartbroken that this wonderful woman could be so uneducated, and then left. LOL
So I feel for you.

It doesn't sound like your doctor is listening to you or taking you seriously. I would switch.

In regards to vaccines, make up your mind which ones (if any) you want before you go in. Talk to your dh about the schedule that you two would be comfortable with and present a united front when you go.

There is some really good info on this webpage about vaxxing... http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/

It's a tough decision! You can always hold off on all vaxes until you're comfortable and have done a lot of research.

Oh, and check out "Finding Your Tribe" here on MDC to ask other parents in your town about a good doctor...

I am SO sorry you are going thru this. It is very tough when you are at the pedi's .....we had a bad 9 month well visit. We were basically scheduled with a different doc who pretty much tried to "peer pressure" us into at least getting HiB. DD is vaccine free to this point and she will stay that way as long as I have breath in me!!!! But at the docs office it is extremely hard to voice your opinions and rememeber why you want no vaccines. The doc we saw was pretty much saying SHE wanted what was best for our DD....HELLO...no one on this earth wants what is best for MY DD more than us!!!! arghhhhhhh....needless to say we will not be going back there. She basically said if we were'nt going to at least do HIB, then they didn't want to treat/see her.......stay true to yourself and your feelings. I feel so strongly about not vaccinating our DD that if we were to cave in and god forbid something did happen I would not be able to live with myself. Momma's intuition........good luck with your quest.

"Let's hope you are around to tell him?"

I would find a new doctor immediately. What a passive aggressive statement. If a doctor can't see the commonsense reasons for delaying something like Hep B, they aren't going to be persuaded about anything.

Yes, what happened to that Bubonic Plague vaccine and why isn't it on the vaccine schedule?

The Plague is still around. Its heyday was in the 1340s. Every so often there is a finding of a wild rodent with Plague.

Let us line everyone up and get those shots going! You never know when the Black Death will return!

I would stop ALL vaccines until you have researched. Stand firm and say "WE WILL NOT BE VACCINATING TODAY". Repeat as often as necessary. Find a new doctor. Research until you are perfectly comfy in your choice and then decide which if any you will do and when.

Good luck and so sorry you were bullied.

They are giving the Bubonic vaxes to the military. My dad got the shot back in the 70's THREE TIMES, because they kept loosing his records so they just reshot him up. He finally got tired of it and told them he was alergic to eggs just to get them to stop.

odd that joining the military increases exposure to bubonic plague...

historically speaking, of course, joining the military has always been very hazardous to the health. in addition to the dangers of actual combat, military encampments tended to be unsanitary. only recently did the value of strict cleanliness come clear to the guys with guns. what else? large numbers of young men, bored and lonely, raises the rate of venereal diseases.

so, if they were going to be somewhat vaguely realistic about the vaxes given they would include:

an anti-diarrhea vax
anti-venereal disease vaxes
typhoid perhaps
influenza in season

but bubonic plague? pretty unlikely.
