We need this mamas. I'll start.

Baby Alethea is a year next week, yeah!

:

Months and months ago, she was riddled in eczema. You couldn't even put a small post-it-note anywhere on her body that wouldn't touch a lesion (except her scalp).

Last week, someone in an elevator commented on what a beautiful baby she is!
I can actually lay her down for a nap after she falls asleep nursing instead of holding her the whole time!
We can go places in the car now without her scratching her face!

My baby is finally feeling good enough to "come out of her shell" and interact with non-family adults! She's even had a few normal looking poopies!

Mine now has NO skin issues at all unless I trial something. He is really happy too, but he honestly always was. You'd never have known there was anything wrong if you only looked at his personality.

We sometimes have brown poops, too. That's pretty new.

Good thread, Wugmama.

Ellie smiles and laughs almost all day long now - she's a total goof ball. Up until she was probably 8 months she almost never smiled - she looked worried all the time.

Her gut has healed enough that I've now gone 5 days eating everything except milk and soy proteins (I even did something with soybeam oil) and no mucous or blood!!! I'm still expecting it but the fact that she hasn't reacted yet is a sign that her system has settled down significantly.

We're right behind you- DD will be one year in a couple weeks!

Her skin is a million times better than it was a few months ago (although not completely healed yet), her poos are good, her sleep is better, and she is a MUCH happier baby!!

Liberty seems to be improving, not sure if it is diet or age related (she's almost 5mo and her skin got crazy @ 3 mo). I can't wait till she is 1yo and hopefully the eczema is a thing of the past.
Glad you & your babies are all feeling (and looking) wonderful!

DD slept through the night last night. Yippee. She's still been waking up 1-2 times a night since ... well, forever.... and she started taking naps again 2 weeks ago (she's 3 1/2 years old). I took 2 more things OUT of her rotation because she started getting rashy again.

This past spring was a bad time for my son getting foods he's not supposed to have (he was just shy of 2yo then). But, the up-side is that the rash he gets from chocolate has gotten very, very, very faint (I almost missed it) and he's stopped banging his head on the wall when he gets gluten. That almost makes up for _how_ I figured that one out--2 ways, the first was that he learned how to open the tub of dog food and was _sneaking it_ when I took the dogs out (mouthfuls of the stuff, I caught him with!) and then a couple weeks later, he grabbed a partially crushed cracker from the floor at Target and popped it into his mouth. : That was bad on so many levels (except for learning that he's getting better : ).

mmmmmm.... Target floor crackers.

That's great that he's getting better though!!

I was afraid for awhile my baby didn't know how to eat due to delayed solids. Then we noticed she was eating everything she could find off the floor. Turns out she is just a picky pants. My mom suggested strewing the floor with food to get her to eat new things.

Gross.

Back on topic though... my baby's bum rash is COMPLETELY gone! She's had it since she was 2 weeks old and is going to be 11 weeks old this Sunday. Now hopefully we can keep it that way as I start eating new things! :

DS will be 1 yr in less than 2 weeks. Family we visited this week - some of whom we hadn't seen since May or July - said he looked SO much better. Yay! It's sometimes difficult to see the day-to-day improvement, but I guess taking the things out of our diet really is making a difference. (even if I'm not being very good about the gut-healing parts)

This is a great thread! DD is allergic to wheat, oats, dairy, peanut and eggs. She also could not tolerate citrus or tomatoes. She is now eating citrus and tomatoes with NO nasty poop, and we have been doing a wheat/oats trial for about a month with NO nasty poop issues or anything else. She has a checkup in a couple of weeks and we will do another blood test for the food allergies. Life has gotten easier! :

So nice to hear your positive stories!

Hi everyone - I have lurked around this forum for many months and have learned so much. Thank you! My DS has had terrible eczema since 6 weeks and he is now 9 months. It has been a very challenging time but we are now, amazingly, seeing so much progress. Our biggest success has come from the elimination of foods from my own diet under the guidance of very supportive health care professionals. I know how difficult it can be. Hang in there to all who are going through tough times now...it WILL get better. I have, on many occasions, been tempted to stop breastfeeding but am now so thankful to have continued. It was the one thing that could comfort my little man. He has become a happy little baby over the last couple of months and I am so pleased to say that his skin is now soft and beautiful.

Your stories have really touched me...many have made me cry and now, these make me so happy! Thank you for sharing and I wish everyone good luck and good health! Hang in!

My son is now 5 years old. Some of my first posts on MDC were support-seeking for my very sick baby who was covered in eczema and hadn't gained weight in months. I remember having one pair of pajamas I would put him to bed in every night because they had built-in mittens so he couldn't scratch himself in his sleep. I remember driving to my sister's house and arriving with a baby covered in blood from scratching while we were on the freeway. Because of the support I received on MDC, I kept on nursing him despite what the doctors and allergists told me and once we figured out what he was allergic to and eliminated it from my diet, he changed into a completely different baby. At the time, I couldn't see past the moment, and I thought I would always have a sickly child.
His allergies are all but gone. The only ones that remain are peanuts and cow's milk, though he can tolerate cultured milk products. His skin is perfect and his weight gain is right on target. Most importantly, he's healthy, happy and absolutely delightful. I wish someone had told me all those years ago that everything would turn out this way. It would have been really encouraging.

It's cool that you'd come back to Allergies and share. Sometimes, even seeing short-term progress, it's hard to visualize how things will be years down the road.

Here's my "things have gotten better" story.
In January of this year, DS1's school counsellor came to me saying I either needed to try something else or put DS1 on Ritalin for attention issues- he was only off of food coloring at the time and some random foods, such as ketchup, canned cream of mushroom soup and ranch dressing.
I found another parent (quite by accident) whose son had issues similar to ds1's- they were on the same soccer team. The other boy's mom brought it up because she recognized her son's symptoms in ds1. She gave me the phone number to a doctor in town who would help me- my PCP wanted to put him on Ritalin.
In April, we finally got in to the allergist and had blood testing done. As a result, we took out wheat/gluten, dairy and eggs.
Fast forward to ds1's school Open House on Monday. His teacher had nothing but praise for his focus and attention to detail, along with commenting on how bright he was and how he helped other children in class. His handwriting has improved a hundred fold, 6 months ago it was barely legible.
