I caved and now I'm nervous

We selectively vaxed our daughter, planned on doing the same with my son. I'm really confused with what we have done and what our plan is that I just waved my hand absently when my doctor suggested we catch my son up a bit.

My son is 12 months old, has had DTaP at about 5 months (not sure what else). No reactions or anything notable. The doctor mentioned the Measles outbreak in our city (chicago), suggested we do DTaP and MMR. "sure" I said.

What was I thinking?

Now he's had 6 vaccines at once. So I don't even know where the reactions are coming from. Nothing is bad, but now that I've been poking around in the archives, I keep expecting it to get worse.

So far: hot, raised, red whelp at the site of one of the shots (not even sure which one), sometimes feels wet like it's weeping;
mild fever;
uncoordinated walking;
mild rash around his mouth and nose;
while sitting in his high-chair tonight, one of his hands shook rhythmically for a few seconds - like a tiny seizure. Can seizures be localized or was it something else?;

What should I be watching for in him? I don't want to be paranoid, and you bet I'll be more diligent that I have been. No more of any of these vaccines for him. I think I'll find a doctor with views more aligned to my own, too.

To make it more confusing, my daughter also has a fever now - I thought vaccines were dead viruses. Is this possible that she is fighting off something he was vaccinated for?

He received the shots yesterday, so about 36 hours ago.

I don't know if that was a seizure or not. If it was, that would concern me. I would be extremely concerned about the uncoordinated walking. Google MMR ataxia or DTaP ataxia and see what comes up. Ataxia is the medical term for uncoordinated walking.

yes, that could be a seizure. (seizure disorder runs on both sides of my family. IME, it's very difficult to get doctors to finally admit that someone had a seizure. unless the dr actually sees it, they will probably tell you that it is nothing). the uncoordinated walking is also really worrisome. please report this to VARES.

also, you might do some searching about using vitamins to detox the body. i'm really sorry.

You can get basic information about VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) here. http://vaers.hhs.gov/pdf/VAERS_brochure.pdf. The brochure also mentions the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, which you may want to look into.

The MMR vaccine is live.

Sooo sorry!

I am soooo sorry!!!

We went through reaction too, my son did begin to get better though, and never showed signs of anything after a year, and is fine.

He never did walk different though... but yes... seizure can occur from MMR or Pertusis...

BTW... don't let your Doc. tell you its nothing! You know what is happening, and trust in yourself!

Your family is in our prayers!

I agree! Look further and trust your instincts. It sounds like a reaction to me. Send me a message if you need any further help.

MMR is a live vax so it could shed and transmit to your dd. I don't know the stats but I didn't think it was very likely with MMR compared to the other live vaxes. DTAP is killed. Te tetanus componet of that vax usually causes the raised lump. I would also be concerned about the walking.

Thanks, everyone, for your support. Now I'm suspecting the uncoordinated walking is just a side-effect of the fever or the whelp on his leg - it doesn't seem too exaggerated. He just falls more often, but he's only been walking two months. He seems to be doing much better, but I'm watching him very closely. From what I'm reading, many of the symptoms appear even weeks after the vaccines are administered.

After telling my husband about what I've noticed, he completely trusts my concerns about the vaccinations. I flat-out told him that Avery wouldn't be getting any more. We're switching to a vaccine-cautious practice.

At times like this, I'm thankful that I breastfeed and co-sleep. At least he's always close to me for observation.

Yep the MMR is live.

If you go to the forum here at MDC called "Finding your Tribe" you can start a thread asking for Dr suggestions in your town.
