dh just called from our dd's soccer game and said his folks will be here any minute. we knew they were coming today, but today is also the first day that i don't know if i can hide the belly without lookking like i've gained a ton of weight! my MIL is very opinionated about weight...: anyway, we weren't going to say anything until after 12 weeks. i'll be 11 on monday but we wanted to hear the hb first with a doppler. now i am panicking because if you look at my belly, i'm obviously not just fat! eekk!!

Bulky clothes! Got any baby-doll type tops? Stay sitting down, covered with a blanket, and say you're cold! Or put a pillow over your belly.

Good luck! (I hate MILs that are judgmental about weight! Argh! My ex MIL went shopping with me once, and actually said out loud in front of everyone outside the dressing room: You have a big butt! : JEEZ lady! I just looked at her, and she went on, "I mean, in comparison with the rest of your body... it's larger..." I blinked at her and said, "Yeah, I've noticed." )

My parents dropped by unannounced a couple weeks, this is when I decided I had to say something a couple days later even though I had wanted to wait. I spend the whole visit sucking my my belly as hard as I could because if I didn't then it was obvious!

do you have a loose-fitting dress you can wear? maybe something with an empire waist?

I second the baby doll/ empire waist dress. It's stylish, trendy and can hide most anything!

good luck with the in-laws. I hate being judged. Do you think it's possible that only you can notice the changes? we always seem to be our own worst critics.

For what its worth, my mom knows, and keeps asking me if I've gained any weight yet, and seems dissapointed that I've only gained a little. So it cuts both ways, and it appears that we just can't win.
