Stock Pot Question

Thread Starter
Does anyone have a stock pot they recommend that isn't stainless steel(since it leaches metals)? I want a pot that I don't have to worry about it leaching anything into my stock. If I'm going to go through the trouble of making a nice healthy stock, I don't want to ruin it by cooking it in something that's going to put bad things into it. It's seems like they're all made out of stainless steel so I'm clueless. Has anyone found a safe stock pot that I'm just not finding on the internet?

I think most people (even here) use ss pots because it is one of the least reactive... if you only use wooden utensils & don't scratch it, that should minimize it. The only thing I know of that is more non-reactive is glass... not sure if enameled pots would be as non-reactive as regular glass or not.

Even some glass cookware will have aluminum in it to help it heat more evenly-- it pays to research your cooking stuff.. I do use 18/10 stainless with an encapsulated alum(sorry I just can't spell this morning) bottom disc (brand name Tranmontina) Every thing that gets heated and used in cooking will more or less leave a part of itself behind. But of all the stuff that I cook with I enjoy my SS and my Cast Iron the most. So far SS will leave the minimum of stuff in your foods. You could look into getting the cast iron with the porcelin coating- but that could even chip into your foods. but it will hold up to long slow cooking. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Does anyone use a slow cooker or crock pot for making stock? Any health concerns with using those or any that are recommended?

I use a stainless steel stock pot and also my crock pot to make broth. I'm not aware of any hazards using the crock pot, I hope there isn't since it's so simple and I feel safer leaving it on while I'm asleep.

I really want Le Crueset cookware but the price is so high, I'm going to check out the Mario Batali now! Thanks arismama!

I use Le Creuset enameled cast iron also. I do have a monsterous SS stock pot that I use for canning.

The crockpot concerns are lead in the glazing of the ceramic ones
