My uncle, my favorite uncle, had esophageal cancer that spread to his pancreas. I posted about him a couple months ago when he was told about it spreading and that he may only have a few months. I am so glad that I went to see him in June. He couldn't speak (having had his vocal cords removed), but he was so happy to see my DD for the first time (both he and she were always too ill to travel). He loved babies and little children. He also loved hunting and fishing and his family more than anything. He was 58.
He died this morning at 3 a.m. with my aunt and cousins at his side. My aunt said he had a little bit of a hard time at one point, but he went peacefully and was coherent to the end. My aunt is such an inspiration to me for the care and love she gave to him. She is such a great example of strength to me.
I put a pic on my blog of their family from our wedding (see siggy).
