Losing too much weight

Thread Starter
My dd is 8 1/2 months old and is breastfed. I have been on an elimination diet through the summer but am now only off of citrus, nuts, dairy, soy and eggs. I am a vegetarian and am losing too much weight-I am much lower than my pre-pregnancy weight and am concerned and tired. DD is doing very well-chubby, happy baby-no reactions for a few months now. I can't seem to put on/stop losing weight. I am thinking about trying dairy again(tried it 3 months ago and DD had green stools) in the hopes that she has outgrown her allergies by now. Any advice on how to stop losing weight? I can't continue like this and am feeling pretty bad today-I really don't want to stop breastfeeding but to be honest, think about it more and more lately. I also just read that if a breasfeeding woman loses weight too fast then her body will release toxins stored in fat-help am I hurting my dd by continuing to breastfeed?

As a vegetarian without dairy, nuts, soy and eggs... where are you getting your protein? Seeds and quinoa and beans? Are you getting lots of good fats, like coconut oil and avocado? Yes. Burning fat too quickly lets loose LOTS of toxins. Should you quit BFing? No. You need to get your weight stabilized. Is your metabolism running fast? Are you eating every time your hungry and then eating some more of the safe foods?

It is true that your body stores excess toxins in your fat, and those are released when you lose weight. But as long as your liver isn't overloaded (or is it the kidneys? I always get them mixed up.), it will process most of them right out, so it's not all going straight into your BM.

Now for the weight loss... My savior was buckwheat waffles. I eat 2-3 every morning, which gives me over 500 calories (I also have a piece of pork sausage for a couple hundred more calories, but I know that's not an option for you.) I use: buckwheat flour, water, sea salt, either safflower oil or palm shortening, blueberries... and I used to use an egg replacer (either flaxseed meal gelled in some water, or tapioca starch), but found that it didn't really make much difference. Oh- and I now soak my buckwheat flour overnight with a little vinegar, and then throw just a pinch of baking soda into the mix and it makes them a little fluffier.

That's my first suggestion. It will give you a good portion of carbs and fats (put lots of oil in the mix), and that should help slow down the weight loss. Actually, I think that's all I have for you... because all my other suggestions involve meat.

ETA: I just noticed that you're NOT off gluten... so you really could use just regular flour, and add any other exciting ingredients that are safe for your diet!

Lots of coconut oil and olive oil, and avocado. Coconut milk in smoothies and baking. Pita chips dipped in hummus. Roasted chickpeas. Baked beans. Black eyed peas. I don't think your diet seems that restricted but that's because I'm thinking of all the things you can have, which is lots. Have a loaf of bread with apple butter spread on it. I just had an entire sleeve of rice cakes the other day with jelly spread on them. Rice bowl with brown rice, rice vinegar, a whole avocado, a cucumber, and a carrot. Eat LOTS of what you can have. Stir fried vegetables over rice. Eat, Eat, EAT!! My blog has recipe ideas if you need any.

Prep food ahead, so you have options when you're hungry and don't have time / energy to putz.

I try to make a point of eating an entire avodaco, sometimes 2, mashed and mixed with salsa with rice chips or corn chips (depending on what I'm avoiding and have on hand) every day while I'm making dinner.
