Have I Killed My Kefir Grains?

So I haven't made kefir in a couple of weeks. The grains were in a jar of water at the back of the fridge and when I went to get them out today I realized that the jar had tipped over and the water had run out and the grains are totally dry around the outside. Are they dead?

Try a small culture and see if they do it in normal time. Maybe some are alive and can reproduce.

Sorry this happened

They are probably dead but it's worth a try. Be sure to let us know. I'm curious

In the future, you might try drying them on a paper towel and then storing them in a bag in the cupboard if you need to take some time off from making kefir.
