Where to shop for dressy kids' clothes?

My wedding is in less than 2 weeks and I don't know what my children are going to wear! I always shop thrift stores, almost never buy anything new- but this time I need some specific things. I don't know where to look!

I have pants for my son, but that's about it. He needs a long-sleeved black button-down shirt.

My daughter needs a pretty dress. The wedding's not fancy, but she is, so a party dress, you know, and it has to go up when she twirls around. If you had to shop for these things, where would you go? Keeping in mind that I am extremely thrifty, but at the same time... I am running out of days before the wedding!

I thought perhaps a consignment store for the dress. Anyone have a favorite one?

I don't know the consignment stores around here, but I would try Sears. Tell the salesperson what you need and ask if they have anything on sale. They are cheaper than most of the other department stores...

So far all my DD fancy dresses have come from Once upon a Child. I know they are all over the country, any near you?

Thanks, Christine! I will have to check out Sears in person. I couldn't find anything special-occasiony enough on their website. It's been so, so long since I went to the mall, but I'm planning to go anyway because I want to have someone do my makeup at Sephora (I want to buy lipstick that will stay on!) Speaking of that, has anyone had one of their free makeup applications done?

Thanks Hallielynn01! I looked and it turns out there is a Once Upon a Child just up the street from me. About how much would you say you've paid for special-occasion dresses there?

www.sweetrepeatsatlanta.com

I haven't shopped there alot, but this is the most upscale consignment shop I know of in Atlanta.

I have had success finding inexpensive boys' dress clothes at Burlington Coat Factory, of all places. I think I've seen fancy dresses for little girls there too.

I was just at Sweet Repeats this weekend, and noticed that they had lots of cute little girl things.

Sears is another great idea, you might try Macy's, too. They have good clearance.

As for the dress, we usually see very nice things in Last Chance Thrift, half price on Mondays, so you might want to look today before you go more expensive.

Craigslist has flower girl type dresses and party dresses, and if you get something on Ebay soon it will be here for the wedding.

Big thanks, everyone! You gave me some great ideas. M, we don't have a Last Chance Thrift over here! The closest one is in Norcross, and being as I am almost out of gas and there's none to be had around here for a few days, I must stick closer to home. But I can't complain, Roswell is pretty great for thrifting.

I did see a dress on ebay that she really liked. Mostly she wants the flower crown it comes with if you use Buy It Now. So if I don't see anything today, that's what I'm going to get, and hope it comes in time. The wedding is in Florida and we're leaving next Wednesday-eek! Maybe I should have it mailed to my sister's house.

You know I checked craigslist, but those people are frickin crazy if they think I'm going to pay $40-75 for a used little girl's dress. Wow.

Around here, at Once upon a Child, the dresses are between $10 and $20 for the fancier ones. Would love to see pic of whatever you choose to get

Ooh, that's an excellent price! Unfortunately I didn't make it over there to check, because the gas light is on in my car. All of the gas stations in Roswell are either out of gas, or have a hundred cars waiting in line. So I'm trying to drive as little as possible until the shortage works itself out.

Anyway, I ordered one off of ebay, and I really really hope it gets here before we leave for Florida! Here's the one I bought. Lula can't wait to wear the little crown that comes with it.

I don't live in your area, but I always shop consignment for my kids, especially for dressy occasions. I figure that I can let somebody else drop the big bucks on an outfit that the kid will wear once or twice. That way I can get some really great quality clothes at a good price.

That's a lovely dress!

We used to shop at BCF when I was in high school and living in Syracuse, NY. I agree, it was great! There was one just a couple of miles from here but they closed it last year. I think the closest one now is in Marietta.
