Where Do You Buy Clothes? - Page 2

For the kids I do most their shopping at the Goodwill. I am overweight and it's so hard to find "big girl" clothes there. For me I shop at Target, Old Navy, Sears, anywhere I can find a deal!

DS wears mostly Old Navy. Jeans I will usually buy at a thrift store.

DH wears mostly Old Navy, Aeropostle, or American Eagle.

I like Old Navy, Gap, AT Loft, Express, New York and Co, and Target for me.

I get a lot of stuff at Old Navy too, for the kids. I find if you go online first, you can pick out a few things you want to look at in store and it isn't so overwhelming. I'm not sure if H&M is in the US, but it's a Swedish company that just came into Canada a couple of years ago and has cute kid's and adult's stuff at reasonable prices, including some organic cotton clothes. I also try to buy at least some organic cotton, or other sustainable fabric, or locally made clothes, so I buy from mec.ca, and some more boutique-type baby/children's websites.

I haven't bought a lot of clothes for myself recently as I used to be such a clothes horse, and now I'm a SAHM and don't care what I look like, but when I do, it's American Eagle, or Gap.

In Eastern Canada there's a type of store called Frency's (reference to the Acadian French Canadian who origniated the concept, and still best at or near Acadian communities) which is universally popular even for yuppie profesionalls. The chains buy used clothing by the bin from rag-picker companies. The set up waist high bins and lable them "ladies t-shirts", "babys 0-24 months", etc. People are paid to sort the cloths and the dump them into these bins. No hangers or pricing. Shoppers sort through the mounds of close looking for treasures. All items from the same category are treated equally: a imaculately taylored designer blouse is the same price as last year's clearance item from the Gap - and will cost no more than 3$. It's all about being able to identify quality stuff.
Everyone wears cloths from Frencies where we live. It's an institution! People are proud they spent next to nothing on their outfit. And it's by far the best place to buy kids cloths.

honestly most of my clothes I got/ get while living/ travelling overseas and shopping at the manufacturer outlets in Italy or France.
But for US shopping, I think you can great deals on Land's End overstocks and Garnet Hill extreme sale OL.
We also live within driving distance of some good outlet areas. Definitely worth looking into if you live near any.

I get the best deals for the kids at Old Navy, The Children's Place, and Crazy 8. For me, Forever 21, Body Central (www.bodyc.com), and Goody's. DH is Mr. Abercrombie and refuses to buy cheap clothing, so we won't talk about him. :

Oh my goodness. My absolute FAVORITE store of all time, Buffalo Exchange. That's where I get everything for me. They have everything from name brand, to vintage.

For the kids, I usually try to only shop at Childrens Orchard. It is a higher end consignment store near me that has amazing prices on everything. I just bought a pair of pedipeds in brand new condition for DS for $1.99. The day before, I had seen those exact shoes at a baby boutique near my house for $38.00!!!!!!!! Jeez, yeah right..I dont even spend that much on MY shoes, that I wont be growing out of in a few weeks! They also sell a lot of Old Navy things, and often times I will find items that are new with the tags still on but for a fraction of the price. That's my kind of store.

This way, when I buy from both Buffalo and Childrens Orchard I am not contributing to any of the companies who are not involved in sweatshops or who dont practice fair trade.

My husband on the other hand will wear things until they are hole ridden and practically falling off of him. He couldn't care less where I buy his clothes!

And when it comes to my house, mostly everything in here is either IKEA (fair trade store), made by me, or bought on craigslist.
