Atlanta Area Nurse Midwives - Page 2

I'm another huge fan of Margaret. I had a water birth with her in 2005 and it was my best birthing experience of the three.

I wouldn't let them take my baby from me no matter how much they told me it was "hospital policy." And if you don't let them give your baby a bath, and they will not want to take her to the nursery. Worked for me. ;-) I coslept with my third baby at Northside and no one said a word to me. (With my second baby, I wasn't even there overnight.)

I didn't hear of the formula policy because all of my babies were between 7 and 8 pounds. That does give me pause in terms of recommending Northside to a first-time mother. On the other hand, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Northside to a non-first-time mother who either is committed to breastfeeding or committed to never trying it.

Here's a newbie question. I like the idea of water birth at North Fulton. Even if chose Margaret aren't there nurses checking in on you all the time? I'm not sure how having a baby goes. I'm not too friendly with men poking around down there. Is my only option to avoid a bunch of people bothering me when I'm having a baby is to have a homebirth?

i delivered at NFR in June, Margaret was my MW, (though at 8cm i had to have an emergency C-section, DD's heart rate couldn't be tracked, cord around her foot 4 times, pinching it and cutting off her oxygen.. anyway...) i had all sorts of nurses in and out while they were trying to find her HR, and i didn't see a single male nurse, but, if you are going natural you don't really care anymore at that point. (maybe with meds too, i don't know first DD was natural no meds, second was no meds till they put me under for surgery) I bet, if you still don't want men poking around down there, you could request only female nurses, just explain it makes you uncomfortable, in my experience they were very accomodating with anything i asked. The care we recieved there was excellent, i didn't get my waterbirth, and we had 5 days in NICU (loved the staff there too!) but i will be back at NFR as long as we live in the area (we are about an hour away) when #3 is on the way (VBAC here i come!) Also, Margaret switched practices the weekend i delivered, she went to Alpharetta Womens first then Isis, i delivered while she was at AWS and i really like the Dr and midwife there too... I have sent 2 other friends there and they have loved Sharon, and Dr Schenoux (sp?) takes a LONG time (almost as long as Margret, who i once talked to for an hour and a half ) to answer questions, concerns ect, and she didn't push birth control on me like all other OB's i've met she said it's my choice, and if i want to use NFP she thinks that is great (and no rude comments like "then i guess we will see you back within a year for an ultrasound" like i got at another practice in the area after DD1 -- they are 2 yrs one month apart, we planned for them to be exactly 2 years apart... NFP does work! )

I delivered at NFR with Margaret and there was only one female nurse in the room with us. I had different nurses afterwards but they were all female and very nice. But during the birth and for about an hour after it was just Margaret and one nurse. Of course, when I got to the hospital I was 8 cm and had the baby 45 mins later

I delivered dd with Margret and really didn't have a whole lot of checking 'down there'. There was 1 nurse in with us and that was it. Very private and respectful. I was checked when we got there and never again. And it is true...when you are in active labor you do not care and modesty flies right out the window! With ds2 i threw my gown on the floor and was perched on the bed pushing in my birthday suit. A %$% Dr poked his head in to see if I was "deliverable' and I about pulled his head off and spit it out. He probably got an eyefull too!
