TED for my 3 month old- help!

Hi Ladies,

Will I was hoping not to have to go here, I've eliminated all the top 8 foods, and while my 3 month old is a 100 times better she's still reacting a little to something. No more rashes but she still has slimly poops and just last week had specks of blood ( I did have nuts one day last week and I am thinking that has to be it) and she has now been drooling for the last two- three weeks like CRAZY, its too early to be teething, I don't know what the hell is causing it. Her whole dress will be soaked in minutes if I don't watch it
So tomorrow I was going to start just eating chicken, potatoes, carrots, lettuce and raisins. I figured these were pretty safe food but just reading another post I saw their child was having issues with potatoes.... are there standard foods that I should start the ted diet with? She thankfully is gaining weigh like a champ but I still hate that there is something wrong with her gut. I'm also on the Dr. Ohhira's probiotics 12 plus. Her doc keeps trying to get me to pump and dump for a few days and giver her formula to give her gut a "chance" to heal..... but I'm just not ready to give up but don't want to be hurting her either.

Usually it's turkey, sweet potatoes, zucchini/yellow squash, and pears. There's a TED support thread around somewhere on here. Some kids are early teethers. My nephew got his first 4 at 4 months, and it takes a few weeks so it's possible that the drool is from teething (not the bloody stool however). Good for you for trying to determine the answer!

Thanks for the suggestion! I need to go shopping now. As far as the drooling, I mean it still seems like a LOT of drool for a 2 month old even if it is teething, my other kids didn't drool at all. I just have a gut feeling that its another reaction to something not right in her gut
To top things off she had REALLY bad diarrhea last night and I was wondering what the hell was going on, then my 3 year old threw up and had his own bout of diarrhea all night now........ so I think of top of everything else I think we've caught so bad bug so I'll wait a few more days to start the ted diet anyways (yay I get humus today after all)........ have I mentioned how much I miss yogurt???

We use coconut milk yogurt (I make it with an allergen-free starter I get online). We did various fruits in it and I use it in baking. I am thinking about trying water buffalo yogurt, which I just read about on here.

rice cakes
puffed rice cereal
cream of rice cereal
rice pasta
rice
turkey, squash stirfry over rice
roast turkey with turkey gravy (thickened with rice flour) over rice
a lot of people use olive oil as well and sea salt on the TED (black pepper is questionable - my DS reacts to it).
mini meatball soup (meatballs made from ground turkey in homemade turkey broth)
swedish meatballs over rice (meatballs made from ground turkey and gravy thickened with rice flour
squash soup (boil it, puree it, salt it)

Remember if she gets worse during this time, then she's reacting to one of those few foods, and you need to swap it out (for instance my DS can't have rice or turkey). For instance qunioa instead of rice, or carrots instead of zucchini, or lamb instead of turkey....

Gotta love viruses that come in and screw up results!

I don't have issues w/rice but my mom is allergic to rice should i then consider it off limits?

Rice is generally considered the least allergenic of the grains. And "they" (doctors) say that the tendency toward allergies is inherited and not specific allergies (though my DH and DD#1 are both allergic to cats). But if it were me, and my mother was allergic to rice (IgE/allergy or IgG/intolerance?), I would probably start with a different grain. There is a scale somewhere (Joneja, I believe) that tells you how allergenic a food is. Qunioa might be a better grain for you (both my DS and DD#2 are intolerant of it though, so you just never know). You could do millet (which is available in whole grain millet, millet meal, and millet flour) or buckwheat (which is really an herb, which is available as buckwheat groats and buckwheat flour). Neither is as versatile as rice, but it might be a better bet for you to start out with. A week should be able to tell you whether you're on the right track. Just remember when nursing a baby and having few foods, you need to eat a lot of each food to get the required calories. And try to add high fat foods back in first (after you get to baseline) - like pork or salmon or avocado or coconut so that you get your fat requirements. Personally I think that's more important than adding back another vegetable. Because when nursing, you really need the caloric intake. That's probably only my opinion though. A lot of people would say that fish is very allergenic so not to do that as early.

With sweet potatoes, you can make sweet potato fries (coat with olive oil and bake) or baked sweet potatoes - with a little olive oil on it. You can puree leftovers and use it to "sweeten" your grain. There is also sweet potato flour (I found it online, might be Barry Farm).

How should I stay on the foods before changing/adding new foods? I was thinking 4-5 days......

With nursing, it depends how fast it gets through your breastmilk. For me, my DS would react 24 hours after I ingested the food, and then the next 72 hours. But other people say things take up to 2 weeks to get out of your system. You could pick a middle ground and say 1 week, and then change or add.

The recipe is on my blog. The starter is here. DD dips fruit in it. I also use it in baking (before going gluten-free). Since June, with the rotations, I just haven't been making the yogurt (stopped making my own rice milk too). But I just made a batch a couple days ago, so I'll probably start experimenting again. It'll be going for the moisture content of the gluten-free stuff, I think.

On a sidenote, we got a new puppy yesterday so I don't know how much experimenting I can do!

is it okay to use cucumbers instead of squash and white potatoe instead of sweet? what should i do if the slim in her poop doesn't go away?
It's only been a few days... give it some time. Does she act like she's in distress?

Has the cold/diarrhea thing cleared up? Sometimes these illnesses can leave us with extra-sensitive guts for a week or so.

I'd stay away from the white potato, for now. Some people are allergic to sulfites -- in aspirin, potatoes and onions. Not sure what else. Labels should say Contains: Sulfites.

You're doing the right thing, katy1844. Your daughter is still very young. You will figure this out and she will be perfectly fine.

look at the joneja chart and substitute another low allergen food if you need to sub. Do a search for joneja food allergy scale.

She seems to be doing better, at least she is over her cold. But her poop is still really slimy. Since it takes a few days for my diet to get to my milk I figured I should start the TED as soon as possible. I will say one thing if she ends up allergic to turkey and sweet potatoes- it will be no real big loss since I have come to realize I don't like either very much at all
But when your : u do what u have to do, maybe I'll lose that last 15 pounds of baby weight..... that is if I don't get so grumpy my husband kills me
I really just want her gut to be better, so I hope she gets so relief soon!
