Flannel backed tablecloths

I kind of feel like I'm overthinking this...

I want to waterproof the bed, and I've read countless suggestions about it. But the last thing I want is a slippery surface. Some say that getting a flannel backed tablecloth helps, because the flannel keeps it in place. But it seems it would help keep it firm to the bed but slippery to the sheet, or slippery to the bed but firm to the sheet - so I'd still be uncomfortable. So I was thinking maybe if I sew two together vinyl to vinyl, then they'll keep in place and comfy, and waterproof.

So now I come up against where to find two cheap flannel backed tablecloths big enough to cover a king size bed (76" by 80"), should I count on getting 4 smaller ones and layering? Who carries them anyway, and what should I expect to pay?

I'm also thinking I don't want the area around the pool slippery, so a tarp plus towels is not appealing, so I want to find a bit of free carpet remnant to put over the tarp, so I can just toss it after. Is that necessary in the slightest? For some reason I'm terrified of slipperyness during birth. I can't even touch dish soap these days, slippery just isn't something I can deal with on any level.

It's late at night and I'm trying to transition my sleep schedule, so I'm just sitting here obsessing about things, measuring the room to see if a co-sleeper fits, etc. We'll likely be in a different house by the time the baby comes, so I shouldn't think about it yet anyways, but I'm just freaking out on a very tiny scale about a whole bunch of things.

flannel backed tablecloths have never been slippery on the sheets for me...they just don't breathe and that is what makes them uncomfortable. This time I bought flat crib matress protectors.

As far as around the pool...I used flannel backed tablecloths with a couple of large towels. Once again, it was never slippery. I understand how you feel about things being slippery and such right now...I think every pregnant woman goes through that at some point in pregnancy but it amazingly disappears.

we layered our bed sheet, cheap plastic shower curtain, sheet, cheap plastic shower curtain, sheet. I didn't find it slippery at all. The sheets held the curtains taught enough. This time, I plan to open the shower curtains ahead of time, though, to offgas in advance. I used washable hospital-grade pads under me when I was sitting on the bed, after birth.

I can't even contemplate using something that would automatically get thrown away. I washed the curtains afterward, and we used them as mattress protectors for the next 2 years, until they just became obsolete. They are slightly crinkly, but not near as crinkly as "real" plastic waterproof pads! I'm using one of them now as a paint-tarp! I think the other one must have bit the dust along the way.

The only way you will find a flannel-backed table cloth big enough is to buy the fabric by the yard.

For around the tub - maybe just big towels? or bath mats? on top of the water proof floor protection. I dunno because we just use my bathtub.

Seriously? I bought a water-proof mattress pad. Before this baby comes I'm buying a second one. I spent $35 on the one I have, we've had it on the bed for a year and a half. It has survived several puke episodes, leaky diapers, spilled milk, spit up... It's not slippery at all and it has a nice terry top to absorb moisture and keep it from spilling around. I put a regular mattress pad on top of that just for grins.

My waterproof mattress cover was only $15 at Wal-Mart. It's soft and cottony on top and not too crinkly. I'll probably get a second one for the birth.

I used plastic paint drop cloths for my first 4 HBs. I had a flannel backed tablecloth this time that I picked up at a dollar store. I just put it under a sheet and it was fine. But I actually just gave birth over a chux pad on the floor this last time. So my tablecloth didn't get any use.

I bought a vinyl waterproof matress cover ($2.97 @ walmart for my full size bed)

My bed has a heated matress pad on top of the matress, then I put on a nice fitted sheet, a nice flat sheet, then the vinyl fitted cover, then an old beat up flannel fitted. I did it on Saturday so we've slept on it a couple nights and agreed that neither of us can tell its there.
