White marks on 4yo's teeth

Ok, I'm pretty concerned about my dd's teeth. DH's parents have HORRIBLE rotten teeth. (I know, gross) And there are certain ones that seem more prone to the decay. Dh's mother, sister, and father all have it. Dh's teeth aren't great, a little yellowed, but not decaying at all.

When dd was about 9 mos I noticed she had a gray spot on her new tooth. It finally went away but now I'm noticing more problems. We were using flouride toothpaste, but her teeth starting turning gray so we stopped for awhile. That seemed to help. Now her two front teeth have white marks right along the gum line. Her other tooth (the same tooth dh's mother and sister have) is a bit yellowed.

I'm making her a dentist appt but I was wondering if there is anything I should know before heading in. Do they use any chemicals during cleaning that are not safe? Has anyone else experienced this with their child?

TIA!!

I should also add that her teeth appear somewhat see-thru in certain areas.
