I got my exemption information. Man, the law reads like you have to jump through hoops but it's nothing like that.

The law states I have to attend some sort of class that will inform me about the risks and benefits of vaccination. I'd have to write a letter stating why I chose to not vaccinate (for religious/philosophical reasons only), sign a statement of understanding and sign a Refusal to Vaccinate.

Statement of Understanding:
"I have signed the statement of refusal to vaccinate. I understand that at the discretion of the AR Dept of Health, any non-immunized individual shall be removed from the facility for which he/she is attending during a vaccine-preventable disease outbreak." blah blah blah

Sign a Refusal to Vaccinate form, for which you check which vaccines your refusing and that you have received the info from CDC explaining the risks/benefits and that I understand the following:

-The purpose of and the need for recommended vaccine(s)
-The risks and benefits of the recommended vaccine(s)
-If my child/I do(es) not receive the vaccine(s), the consequences may include-
*contracting the disease the vaccine should prevent
*transmitting the disease to others (I don't like this one)
*the need for my child/self to stay out of daycare school, college or university during an outbreak for which my child is/I am not immunized
-That I may contact my childs or my personal physician or the Ar CDC to answer questions etc
-That I may reconsider and accept vaccination for my child/self anytime in the future. All vaccines are strongly recommended that they be given

When all you have to do is:

-Fill out an application, which asks for name, address, phone number, race, sex, grade and birth date. Legal guardian info as well.. surprisingly no SSNs. All you have to do is put a check mark next to Religious, Philosophical, Medical. Of course, you have to attach medical info if you choose Medical.

-Sign a Statement Of Understanding

-Sign a Refusal to Vaccinate

And have it notarized.

The "class" or info you have to have is merely all the pamphlets they give you before you get the shot.. you know that have the huge name of the vaccine on the top and give you a brief description of the disease and how horrible it is and how great the vaccine is. Yeah..it's really informative.

It does say "Do NOT Alter OR Duplicate Application" so I don't know if I can get away with crossing out the "transmitting the disease to others" and the application still being accepted.

To get the application, call the AR dept of health in LR, your local health dept can give it to you, and ask for an application. They'll mail you as many as you need, no questions asked.

Anyway, HTH those of you in Arkansas.
