So maybe from my years of being a vegetarian, but I'm s afraid that gelatin will cause mad cow disease! Am I being crazy? What types of gelatin do you use? Or do you just use what comes off the meat you make?

Also, I want to start my whole family on CLO. I have a 5 month old and a 27 month old. what would you suggest? whats the best kind? Is mercury and other toxins an issue? Thank you for your patience.

Hi Aimee I make a chicken broth.
I buy 2 chicken carcasses and a bunch of chicken feet. The chickens feet have lots of gelatin in them.
I boil in a pot for about 6 hours with an onion, 2 carrots and 3 sticks celery. If you let the pot sit before you cook it with a little vinigar in it it helps draw the nutrients out of the bones. When it's done I strain it all, the broth turns to a jelly when cooled in the fridge.

I use it to make all kinds of soups, casseroles, put a couple of spoonfuls in spaghetti, I just use it like I would have used chicken stock cubes.

What did you want to make with the gelatin?

being a Noob, I don't know what CLO is :P

CLO - cod liver oil. We use Blue Ice and are getting Twinlabs (from vitacost), which has about half the vit amounts of high vitamin clo. We have also used Quantum, but it has vit E as a preservative and we cannot do soy.
I cannot remember how much. Maybe something like 1/4 tsp for little ones and 1/2 tsp for grown-ups? We do more, trying to remineralise teeth.

Here's the WAPF page on CLO, and you can get dosage info on there too:

I used to take the Garden of Life kind and have switched to Blue Ice.

Regarding gelatin, I don't add it to my diet aside from what we get from stock mostly because I'm yet to find an all beef gelatin that's easily available to me. I don't have a comment about mad cow - my beef source is all grassfed and I haven't really thought about it for a loooong time...

Thank you!

Our beef is all grassfed too, but I guess I was more wondering about what you'd buy in the stores. But all the above makes sense.

Thanks for the help :

I get my gelatin here. It is made from grass-fed cows. The cows are all tested and BSE-negative. It's also processed in a way to minimize the formation of MSG.

And, I have to say I am so pleased to see the name Rune. I have always wanted a little boy to name Rune.

Rune Glifberg is a professional skateboarder. Thats where I had heard the name and fell in love with it, probably about 8-10 years ago. Unfortunately we suffered infertility and was lucky enough to only have one daughter, so I never got my Rune But I think its awesome to see the name. It's definately one that is not the typical norm, but not way out there either.
